Be careful what you suggest.
We live next to the fairgrounds. We look at it every day. Of course, my mind works overtime and somewhere this idea formulated in my mind sometime last winter. If it would have stayed in my mind, it would have saved me a lot of work. If it would have stayed there, the fairgrounds would not have looked this nice this year though.
Here's the idea: Put areas of the fairgrounds up for "adoption". Individuals, clubs, businesses can adopt areas of the fairgrounds in return for free advertising and a chance to win prizes. I thought, "hey I'll suggest this and I'll even adopt an area" So I suggested and then I was in charge of it. When will I learn? Obviously I haven't learned in the first 50 years of life, it's not looking good for the next fifty. Luckily I asked a couple of people to help and they have proved to be priceless! So we advertised, we begged, we pleaded and we mapped out 25 areas of the fairgrounds that needed improvement and people volunteered, well to be truthful, some volunteered and some agreed to all the hard work just to get me to shut up and leave them alone. Hey, whatever works. So I am going to share the pictures that I took tonight. Some areas are not finished yet.

To be fair here, this pond and waterfall was actually there already. It was in bad shape though and the one club really cleaned it up.
Some are still working, but what an aggressive project...building a rock wall.
When we finished this I wanted to go around and take these pictures. There was so much congestion in the fairgrounds with campers and rides moving in so I thought of walking, but then I looked at John's mountain bike and thought, "Why not?" I seriously underestimated both the time that had passed since I rode a bike ( I missed an entire decade and had not been on my bike since I was in my 30's) and how bad my legs would shake until I made it home. Another thing off my list, the landscaping, not the bike, I might ride it again!
And this is our area. John and I did this tonight after work. These were all orphan plants that were left over when the local greenhouse closed this year. Thank goodness for Carol's generosity, it really saved me work and money and really filled in my area. There was nothing but dirt here at 5 o'clock and now this is ready for me to water every day.
