December is here already?

Image
It’s been another week of running and lists.    Chores and obligations and things that have to be done.   There doesn’t seem to be any down time built into all this.  I thought today was going to be the day and  last night, reminders came in for  orders that people want …yesterday!    This vine was a gift item,  that needed done.              The tree in Ford City needed decorated.  Not my best work,  but checked off the list in the freezing cold!  The half hour ride home with every heating accessory in my car on full blast, didn’t quite thaw me out!          This is one of the seven or eight quilt tops stacked up in  need of visiting the quilter. When I got this one back,  I gave her three more and said to space them out a little  for my pocketbook’s sake.   This one jus...

Finishing...and Boys

Image
Last week, I went on a tangent to finish some things. Ann at A Hole in the Basket challenged me to a race. She beat me on Day Two. But she was motivation. I finished this quilt top. A Great Stash Buster! And this painting that had been partially finished for weeks... Oh, Ok...months! And another sample for friends' guest room. I like the right side better. how about you? And a scarf that had been sitting about as long as the painting. And Boys... It is summer and Tyler and Logan are at work with us. Five and Six, they have been there daily for most of their lives. Wouldn't you think that they would know to stay away from the ink? Apparently, hot pink t-shirt ink just looked too inviting and just begged to have a golf ball dipped in it. T-shirt ink doesn't dry until 350 degrees, golf ball aside.. I don't think that you can put little boys in a 350 degree oven. or the bathroom sink or the walls or t...

A Challenge & Two More Finished

Image
Ann at A Hole in the Basket issued a challenge to me to see which one of us could finish the most projects by Friday! Always up for some motivation.. I accepted!  If anyone else wants to join in just comment here and we will link your blog and sign you up. There might even be a prize! So that being said, the two pillows above are one and two. Of course, it would not be fair to have yesterday's finishes. A few more blocks on the stash buster. And if you saw yesterday's post, you might recognize the disaster rat's nest of fabric. All organized, that should speed things up. And a project in progress. A bath mat throw rug that I started awhile ago, got a few more rows this morning. So any takers? Let's see how many things you can finish this week.  Comment here or over on Ann's blog, and join in!

Misadventures with urine.

Image
Monday evening and all I wanted to do was see the Pittsburgh News. There were two things that I wanted to see after a typical confusing Monday, I was headed home to see the news and have a quiet evening at home, then the call. Jenn was at work and Chris was being Mr. Mom and Logan had thrown the Whack a Mole game down the stairs and hit Tyler in the head and there was a lot of blood. You say, Blood not Urine? I'm getting to it. Jenn races home and silence. We hear nothing. Then the call. Tyler, in some form of retaliation I am sure, has thrown something at Logan and hit him in the eye. I leave and head to their house. At this point I actually forgot about what I wanted to see on the news. Logan is sitting in Chris' lap with a cold washcloth on his eye. I gather him up, cuddle him up and hold him. After we determine that it is not a hospital worthy injury, John heads to the drugstore for some non-recalled children's pain reliever. Somewhere in that confusion, t...

Grandma's Chair

Image
Grandma's Chair might be getting too small for all of them to sit in it together. It is so hard to get all four of them to sit together so I guess if we just cram them all together and they can't move, it is a good time for a picture! We had our Easter celebration with our family on Friday night. They hunted eggs in all the disaster area that we call our yard right now. Dirt and Mud and holes and ditches, but it was alright, the mess doesn't seem to bother the little ones. They hunted eggs. And some were up high enough only for the tallest one to reach. And SOMEBODY (Dianna) thought that Kendall needed a BLUE peep. Her little blue face was so cute! They roasted marshmallows. The kids got us this fire pit for Christmas. I love it! John likes it also, but he calls it a yuppie fire pit. He warned Brian not to bring us any of that "redneck" firewood, that it would not fit in our "yuppie" fire pit. Gracelyn , who is normally scared of Uncle C...

Wooden shoes

Image
My Dad carved these and brought them here for me to paint for him. They actually fit me. So much detail and so much work in carving all this. And the hummingbirds? Not my favorite bird, but they are graceful looking. And my wool quilt that I started. My Mom got this pattern for me for Christmas and it was shown on a medium color background, but I could just see it on black, so I am trying one block on the black to see if I like it before going on. A group of us went to see Menopause, the Musical yesterday. What fun! I have not laughed that hard in quite awhile. If you get the chance, go see it. No matter what age, it is funny, we have women from their 20's to 80 and everyone found it just as funny.

The 17 Year Quilt-FINISHED!

Image
First let me say after over one year of blogging and over 200 blog posts, I NEVER saw that little blue sentence that says "Add Another Image" on the picture loader window. I have been loading pictures one at a time instead of the five at a time that Blogger allows! The things you learn. And how easy is that? Mom bought me this pattern for Christmas. I have been saying that I would like to tackle a wool quilt and I have several yards of thin black wool that I bought for the base of quilt. This is my challenge item for this year. My Mother makes these great pillowcases. The night before her surgery, I helped her make the last four sets of them. Very easy and fun to make and so much nicer than any purchased pillowcases. As a sidenote : If I had a maid, or if I didn't have a job, I think that I would have clean pressed sheets and pillowcases every day. Well let's just go with a maid. I wouldn't do it myself everyday! And this table runner was quite the ...

Productive Saturday

Image
Finally I had a day that actually felt productive! I started the morning slowly by finishing the second Philip Gulley book, Just Shy of Harmony, loved it also. I can't wait to get back to the library to get more of them. That will be on this week's list since as of Monday I can officially DRIVE! I have been driving around town, but will feel as though I have wings when I can actually leave town! I worked on some surprise projects that I can't post here and then finished this necklace that I had started awhile ago and had lost interest in it. (in the photography process, I realized that my pillows all need washed...on the list for today!) Finished quilting, grunged it up and framed this piece of quilt for the princess' toy room. And then when I finally sat down to rest last night I worked on this hat and scarf. I did some tidying in my sewing room and blocked and finished hats and scarves and packed them away. I will be starting my third plastic bin of hats an...

A swap, a shelf, a quilt and some cute babies of mine

Image
Late yesterday afternoon I opened my front door and there was this package on my porch. It had arrived in the mail earlier in the day and I had not checked the mail yet. Char at the Pickled Pepper Patch was my swap partner and I love it all! I entered this swap for my daughter who actually has a laundry room and I will be giving these items to her and I know that she will love them. She has been so good to help me out the last two Saturdays on my attic project. Thank-you Char! Found these plates in a stack in the kitchen and thought that they would be perfect on this shelf in my attic. Not exactly bedroom decor, but I like it! I also found this quilt that I had made a zillion years ago, probably the only quilt I ever made start to finish. I still am not sure that I want it for a bedspread, but I think it has found a home in this room. This little cutie stayed with me last Saturday night. She is such a little ham and when she sees the camera she is ready to pose, even to the point of ...

A centerpiece/doily, scarf, and The Sweater!

Image
This is the centerpiece/doily that was on my list to do. It is for on the princess' table in her toy room. I am framing some more of this quilt in a window frame for her also...another one off the list. And a scarf that I started when I was on my scarf and hat kick, but now that I have moved on from scarves and dishclothes...... to SWEATERS! Well just this one! This was my first attempt at anything like this and although there are some mistakes, I learned so much making this. Thank goodness for patient friends and YouTube! Who would have thought that you could learn knitting on YouTube. The only thing that I have ever looked at on that site was Harley Burnouts with my grandsons, they love them! I don't think that they will be happy switching to three needle bind offs, but then who knows? This is for the princess. I am sure that her mother will be glad that winter is almost over and that she won't have to wear it on her long! But watch out, another one might be c...

Plethora of Patchwork and Pretty in Pink

Image
I seem to be stuck on P's right at the moment. These were the weekend project at my house. My mom and dad came here on Saturday with the plans to do a marathon and get these tops...and more done. The "and more" are laying all over my sewing room right now and bothering me. My mom has so much leftover fabric and to be fair, she did have most of the blocks cut and several of these finished or started before she got here. We really worked on them to get the rest finished. The Ladies Missionary Society at our church makes these into lap robes and small quilts and distributes them to various places. These will now go to them and they will add the backing and tie them. I don't like the furniture in that room and these really look much better than the furniture, don't you think? As I was sewing I kept throwing a lot of the pinks and blues and baby colors aside, they are now laying in piles all over the room. I had enough to do start this nine patch and there...
