Jennifer's Math, My Typing

Image
Or otherwise known as Things We Didn't Learn in High School   We will start with Jennifer's Math, just because this was so darn funny.   Our daughter, Jennifer lives next door. She is pretty much our "go to" person. She shoulders a lot of responsibility for things for us. Oldest child, calm in the face of chaos (normally) she was a huge help through her grandmother's illness. She checks the house when we are gone, she oversees the shop for us, you get the picture...right?   That all being said, her math skills? Not so good.   So picture this. JWS and I are settled into our recliners. Normal is once again somewhat happening at our house. (It's only been about three days though so I am not getting my hopes up) Jenn comes through the door. Something is wrong.   She has watched Dr. Oz and she is panicked. She wants to call the doctor. Not Dr. Oz, mind you, her doctor. She thinks that she ...

Afghan Progression

Image
It sat on the coffee table from two days after Christmas until New Year's Eve. Then it had to be packed up and put in a basket. I just couldn't stand the mess any longer.  Still working on it, just not allowing it to take over the house any longer. Finished this over the break, or at least all that it my part of it. It is a gift for a friend and another friend is going to quilt it. Another I Spy quilt! And some knitting.... a hat and scarf to keep some little one warm.  There is a story about this yarn... I will leave that for another day.  Back to work today.  Wish I was happier about that!   I sure love being at home!

Three Word Weekend

Image
Finally finished this. Girls, Girls, Girls Wonderful Band Concert Mail from Sheila. Thanks so much! Shelby loved it. Snow in February. Added more details Painted for boys. Three finished scarves. A finished rug. Pot of chili for the week. Tyler's Basketball Practice. Dinner with Friends. Laundry is done. Church on Sunday. A visit with Kendall and Shelby. A wonderful gift. Three words will not work here. Shelby wrote a book as she calls it. Twenty some pages of our/her life so far. She gave it to my Sunday afternoon and I read it Sunday night. What a gift. So many memories and hearing them from her point of view was amazing. I laughed. I cried, I will treasure it forever! And now, on to another work week! Monday, here I come.

Confession is good for..

Ok, well let's just be honest. How many of you can't resist starting a NEW project? Oh, I read your blogs, most of you are like me, some are not. I can't believe the willpower, the fortitude, the organization, the OCDness, of some of you who say, that you finish one project before you start the next. Really?  I have at least twenty seven projects STARTED at one time. I know that I don't have the mittens done yet. but in all honesty. I work on them until my hands cramp, which is usually about 20 minutes at a time and then I switch to something else. I must say, they are almost done right now. About three more twenty minute sessions, and they will be complete. So, with that in mind... I started the scarf above! I could not resist. I love the pattern, even though Jennifer said,  "It looks like you would be wearing a doily." I guess I have worn stranger things. If I like it, I am heading straight to some really nice more $$$ yarn. I don't treat myself to good...

Winter Blahs

Image
Such a negative title, but I am fighting them. Trying to stay positive, But, it's really not my favorite time of year. For years, January meant a mission trip to the Dominican Republic or a trip to Florida. A break from winter anyway. Hershey was fun but it was still winter. So, I am knitting, a set of mittens for a friend. and some more cowls. A chair found at a thrift shop, waiting for the paintbrushes,  if i could just make myself pick them up!   JWS is buying this by the case. And today... I think that I will plant this Chia Pet. My MIL received this as a gift. I think that the kids will like watching it grow. And a winner in my giveaway! Theresa of Theresa's Heartfelt Stitches won! Congrats Theresa! And I won a giveaway! I am so excited. Carmen at Primcats picked me for her unbirthday giveaway! I am watching the mail daily!

A centerpiece/doily, scarf, and The Sweater!

Image
This is the centerpiece/doily that was on my list to do. It is for on the princess' table in her toy room. I am framing some more of this quilt in a window frame for her also...another one off the list. And a scarf that I started when I was on my scarf and hat kick, but now that I have moved on from scarves and dishclothes...... to SWEATERS! Well just this one! This was my first attempt at anything like this and although there are some mistakes, I learned so much making this. Thank goodness for patient friends and YouTube! Who would have thought that you could learn knitting on YouTube. The only thing that I have ever looked at on that site was Harley Burnouts with my grandsons, they love them! I don't think that they will be happy switching to three needle bind offs, but then who knows? This is for the princess. I am sure that her mother will be glad that winter is almost over and that she won't have to wear it on her long! But watch out, another one might be c...

Crocheted flowers and raiding the attic

Image
Yesterday morning I searched through all the old magazines that I have until I found some patterns for crocheted flowers. I made these up yesterday, some with crochet cotton and some with perle cotton. Who would've thought that you could crochet with that? When I started making penny rugs, I bought a ton of perle cotton and did not like using it for the penny rugs. Not sure what I am going to do with these, but they are fun to make, every one is different. Natalie and Tins and Treasures shared her spoon collection and that jogged my memory that I had a thimble collection somewhere in a bin in the attic. Yesterday morning, since it was warm here I went on a bin searching expedition and I found them and hung them over my sewing machine. It is the first time that I have had a sewing room in years. I also found these scarves that I had crocheted a long time ago and they only needed blocked. I'll be adding them to the bin of hats and scarves that are looking for a home som...

Goodwill finds and another scarf done.

Image
Ran into Goodwill really quick last night after WW. Could I justify that guilty pleasure as my reward for my 1 pound weight loss? I found these three little wood pieces for .49 each. They struck my immediately as perfect additions to the princess' toy room. I could "see" them painted! Started them first thing this morning. And here they are done....minus the varnish. I caught them midflight on their way to the basement where they will receive the varnish. This is the results of my three bags full of wool, all cut up and neatly stacked, well almost. At Goodwill last night a jumper, skirt, jacket and sweater just jumped into my cart also. I want to make a purse from the sweater, it is still formulating in my mind. Any patterns, links or ideas that anyone would want to share would be greatly appreciated! I started this scarf in the airport in Pittsburgh and finished it on the way home on the plane. While I was in the Dominican I found out that some women from an...

Reorganization, Beanie, and more hats and scarves

Image
This is the view into my sewing room, (I am still experimenting with curtains) I spent part of yesterday afternoon reorganizing it and trying to make the space more user friendly. This room was my step-daughters and she got married in September. It was the biggest bedroom other than ours and in my mind I wanted it for my sewing room. After John and I mourned her leaving and went through the whole empty nest thing .....for about three days.....we healed and I tore into this room painting and making it into my space. I found this old rocker at a yard sale for $10 and the seat needs recovered and I had not actually even sat in it, just set it in that room and stacked stuff on it. After I rearranged the room yesterday I sat down in it and I love it. It is so comfortable, now to get it recovered, another thing on the list. Does anyone else have one of these laying around? That would surely tell your age if you admit it. This was my husbands and I have lots of old toys in the one spa...

Lots of cutting and a couple of more finished projects

Image
I am working on this for my daughter. She has a room that she has grays and blacks in and this is going to be a pillow for in that room. My Mom had made her a vest of yo-yo's when she was little and I have been tearing that apart and making things from the yo-yo's. This is the 6th recycled project from that vest. I am finally down to really funky colors though and I may be done unless inpiration strikes for those last few yo-yo's Using up the ends of the yarn on these blocks. Michaels apparently collects these and then they have joining parties to make afghans from them to donate somewhere. Not sure if I remember for sure where they donate them to and I am not sure if my local Michaels does that. Anyone familiar with that program? This scarf was made on the smallest loom in the package and only one strand of yard instead of the two that I have been using for the hats. It was very twisted, but I steamed it really well and now it looks fine. I have had this idea in mind f...

Project 26 and the next two in progress

Image
This little scarf is for Gracelyn, my granddaughter. I found this cutest little white fur coat for her last weekend and at the same time her other Grandma found the cutest little plaid coat for her so of course she needed a scarf to go with both of them. She is here tonight spending the night with Grammy and nothing is more precious than a baby falling asleep in your arms, even if it took three tries to lay her down and Grammy rocking herself to sleep in the recliner on the last try. Apparently I must have needed that cat nap, I was up to babysit the boys at 3:30 this morning so that my step-daughter and son in law could go Christmas shopping. Another precious moment is when those little boys woke up and came downstairs and were so happy to see me. It is the only time that I can get them to cuddle with me. This is the nativiy set that I have been working on for the last month on and off. I am counting it as two projects when it is done. There are 19 pieces to it. I had made ...
