Who, What, Where, When and Why?

Who?
Kendall, the one on the left asks a lot of questions. 
Gracelyn, the one on the right is more , let's say, ethereal. 
She makes up her own stories...
and answers.
Kendall is literal, grounded in the
who, what, where, when, why and how.
They love to play in the tailgate while we are waiting
on the bus in the morning.
Makes me have to keep it cleaned out.
What?
That is not an easy task!
You will see why later.
 
Where?
 
This is my attic. 
This is open house stuff!
I have painted and knitted and sewed
and,
wait for it,
Priced Nothing!!!!
 
So, I spend a lot of time sitting up here
doing inventory
and
pricing.
 
When?
Early morning.
The Great Grout Experience
See how bad the grout looks?
One morning I tried
Baking soda,
Vinegar,
Lemon juice,
Toilet Bowl Cleaner,
Ammonia,
Clorox,
(not mixed of course, I am not that dumb,
well...
to tell you the truth at one point in life
I was that dumb,
but I am smart enough to
learn from my mistakes)
Cascade,
scrub brush,
toothbrush,
wire brush.
What finally worked?
Scrubbing Bubbles and Magic Erasers.
Don't have an after pic, but trust me,
it is awesome
and
white again!
 

 
And finally,
Why?
Another auction
last Thursday.
Why do I think I need these things?
You tell me.
A cute little drop leaf table.
 

 

 
And these hats?
Refer to the little girls above.
They will have fun with them.
 
This cute little doll crib?
Headed to the attic after the open house is over.
Again, refer to those little girls above.
The big WHY?
Another box of material.
 
I could not help myself.
There were some great retro prints in there
and I am seeing a crazy strip quilt,
some rugs,

and
just more fabric added to the stash.
Why?

Why? Because you can :)
When we did our last craft show I said to the girl I do them with "I really need to learn to price things as I go along" This was while we were setting up and I was trying to get everything priced.
Those hats remind me of when I was little and would play dress up at my aunts house. There was always matching shoes and purses too :)

Pricing has always been my least favorite thing to do when I have finished items to list.
Oh boy can I ever see the beauty of that drop leaf table. I have an oval maple one that I picked up at a yard sale several years ago. I had a gal paint a simple berry vine on around the edges. It's beautiful but having seen your wonderful talent you'd have done a much nicer job! Yours will be stunning I'm sure.

Some of you asked for this. This is literally one of the EASIEST, most appreciated projects that I have ever made. I timed myself while I made this one and it was finished in under 1/2 hour and that included refilling bobbins, taking pictures, and searching the button box for two matching buttons. They are even faster if 1.) you don't do all of the above and 2.) you make them on an assembly line. Step 1. Cut a piece of fabric for the straps 4 inches wide by 14 or so inches long. If you have a very lightweight fabric, you can double it or use press on interfacing to back it. Step 2. Cut two coordinating rectangles approximately 12 to 15 inches by 15 to 18 inches. This is very loose, you can use vary the size of them. Pin those together on the bottom and halfway up the sides. Step 3. Press the 4 inch rectangle in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and sew around raw edges, then zig - zag the edge. If the fabric frays really bad, you can go over it again. Step 4

Sharpie Markers and Alcohol = Really Quick Art

What a fun, creative process!  Grab all those sharpies that are hidden in your desk drawer. Find that bottle of rubbing alcohol. (Vodka or hand  sanitize might work, you can always experiment) Dig out a canvas,  or go buy some,  nothing like having some blank canvases hanging around.  Draw some wild and crazy lines. Fast and not a lot of planning work best.  Hit it all with some alcohol.  Allow it to move and blend.  I use a brush for the alcohol,  You could use a spray bottle or eye dropper,  I just want a little more control on mine.  And re-outline with a black sharpie!   That's it!  Fast Art!  I will be teaching this next Friday along with two other  fun projects in Mayville, New York.  For more info go to: https://www.facebook.com/ARTRetreatatthelake

Steps to a snowman face, Part 1.

Sketch in the face. Use chalk (I like welder's chalk) and don't be afraid. After all, it is a snowman and they are all different so you can't get it wrong. Paint the face white or light gray or light blue. Just get a base on it and let that dry. Then, and you have to work sort of fast to do this part, lay in three values of color. This one is a medium country blue, a lighter blue and white. I also frequently use Milk Chocolate, Cocoa and an Off-White. Experiment, you might find a better combination. Then Blend, Blend, Blend. I use the largest brush that I can fit in the area. Keep a paper towel folded in your hand and keep wiping your brush. Do not dip it back into the water at this point. Blend between the dark and medium, wipe your brush, blend between the medium and light. Nice soft blend between the values. And then, wipe your brush again and pick up white and drybrush more white in the lightest area. I like to drybrush a little white in the dark areas also. I t
