The Great Dish Towel Saga

Image
This is probably going to leave you shaking your head.   And saying... "Is he still alive?" or my comment, "How dumb could you be?"   I love these dish towels. They are absorbent, they are large, they do not smell and they do not "snag" on your hands.   They are also pricey. Well, pricey for my frugal persona.   They were a gift from my daughter, after I commented on how much I liked hers.   She is frugal also, hers were a gift.   She bought eight of them for me and they have lasted and lasted.   I have bleached and soaked and used them hard.   For several years.   Get the picture?   I love them!!!  (well, as much as you can "love" a dish towel)   So, how you say, did they get burnt?   Well, backtracking, stay with me.   I have the most awesome young(er)  woman that cleans for me.   Ever notice how when yo...

Candy Laxatives, WD 40 and my husband's ex-wife

Ok Back up a month. I started Weight Watchers again. A couple of years ago I joined and was pretty successful at it. Then life, an operation and some other stuff happened and I didn't go back. And slowly (well not EXACTLY slowly) I gained it back. Well some/most of it. But I am not going to bore you with that whole month. Wednesday night, let's start with that. I have WW meeting and I buy some of the oatmeal and these little candies. Cappucino And they are good, Really good. I eat a couple on the way home from the meeting. You can have six for one point. That's a lot of sweet! Thursday AM I try the oatmeal. It is also good. I pick up Kendall for her weekly day with MaMa. I have a couple candies. Go to work. I have a couple more. Noon Thursday. Not to be indelicate, and so many of my posts involve poop... But let's just say that much of Thursday afternoon was spent in the bathroom. Lots of Thursday afternoon. Take Kendall home at 6:30 and the 20 mile drive back home is ...

Security Issues

Image
Not BIG security issues, just little baby/toddler security issues.  My older daughter had a blanket, well actually two blankets, but I am not sure that she knew that.  You see, she carried one of those white thermal receiving blankets everywhere she went.  I kept one hidden so that we could always have a Clean Leave the House Blanket on hand.  My younger daughter was much easier, she had her thumb, always available and always with her.  A little harder to break than the blanket security.  It was somewhere in the first month of kindergarten when she was trying to hold her pencil and write with her thumb still in her mouth, right handed, right-thumbed, picture it?  Now for the grand kids:  Tyler had a Binky, a certain Binky that he had to have.  I had about six of them at my house, never wanting to be out of one and not be able to find one.  He hasn't used it in two years, I recently found one in my nightstand.  See how often I clean...

Honest Doc, it went like this...

You see, it was raining, and I am not talking a mild summer rain, I am talking monsoon rains.  You know, the sound like a freight train and you are looking around for the funnel cloud rain.  The rain that manages to come down our chimney, wetting the carpet in the living room and dripping through to the basement and splatter all over the varnished items on the top of the freezer rain.  Get the picture?  So I call dear hubby down to look at the splattered items sitting on top of the freezer otherwise doubling as a varnishing counter and show him the water issue.  Apparently, all the other times that this has happened I have just TOLD him about the issue and he has not heard me TELL him about it.   In defense of the poor guy, he does not venture into my area very often for fear of his life, however this time he SAW the problem and starts to insist that the problem is with the window behind the freezer.  I tell him repeatedly that it is the chimney a...

Monday Morning

Image
What a busy week ahead.  Once again, I have put off the VBS decorations until the week before.  Every year I say that I am going to start earlier and every year, I do them the week ahead.  This year, I don't think that I will even bother thinking that I might be more prepared next year.  I am just going to deal with my procrastination and embrace it! A couple more of these little purses to add to the stash in the attic for the Open House. And I finished up some of these towels this morning.  And these are the ones for the swap that I am in with my painting group.  I can't picture the fronts yet, that would ruin the surprise.  Great feeling to have them done!
