Relaxing for Memorial Day

Image
My Mom gave this pattern to me yesterday so that I could try a few of these and I sort of went on a roll with them this morning.  The top is a snap top and you use a cut up carpenter's rule in the casing.  I decorated a few with some things laying around my sewing room . My mother-in-law needs a baby gift so I started this for her and put the I Spy quilt on the back burner for awhile.  I did get up early enough for an early morning run.  I have been running now for almost a month and have logged close to 40 miles this month.  Some mornings it is really hard to get up and go and some mornings..well I just don't.  Sometimes I think I am way too old to be doing this and there should be a top 5 list of why I shouldn't be doing this. 1. When your knees hurt too bad to get up the stairs to go to bed at night. maybe you shouldn't be running.  2.  When you realize that as you run, your arms are flapping like butterfly wings...maybe you are ...

Stay and Play

After a particularly stressful week at work, last minute orders, lots of non-profit jobs, mistakes that cost us $$$, and two classes of sixth graders to print their own shirts, John thought a run would clear my head. He was right, it did, although is the hurting in my legs this morning worth it? Somewhere in the middle of all that, I remembered that I have a painting order for a shower this weekend. Why can't I get organized? This is the board that needs painted. I'll start it this morning and hopefully finish it this evening. Yellow, Purple and Butterflies, maybe that is why I am procrastinating. And tomorrow I am teaching these flowers at the church. I have twenty five of them cut. I really think that I have the hard work done. They get the fun part, melting the edges. I like that part! Now where are those tea lights? And this was Gracelyn yesterday morning when I told her that we had to get ready for work. "No Momma, stay here and play" I know ex...

How I Spent my Mother's Day

Image
John and I both ran in the Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh today. What a great event! This was my first running 5k, having walked in one on Saturday. Not an impressive finish unless you take into account that I really didn't train for it. I walked/ran a total of less than eleven miles in preparation for the event and before last week, the most exercise I got was chasing grandchildren and knitting. My time was 40 minutes and 49 seconds, well down in the pack, but I did it. Now I will start training for the next one. Is this addictive or what? John finished in under 30 minutes, but for some reason his name will not come up on the website. Impressive finish for him.

300th post!

Who would have ever thought? Boy, do I talk a lot ! Nothing monumental to tell, to mark the occasion, just the same old blah, blah, blah that I normally do, read more by family and friends than anything. Thanks for reading, thanks for your comments (I love comments), thanks for giving me an ear to vent, to tell, to brag about my grandchildren, to show my "creations" and to air the day to day stories! A late birthday present from the Disney travelers. Shawnee stitched this pillow for me. I had seen this on a plaque somewhere and have always wanted it somewhere in my house. It will sit in my recliner. I love it! And for the weekend. No, this is not me, but here are my weekend plans. I will be walking my first 5K on Saturday. After John finished the half marathon on Sunday, we all thought is was over, the training, the talking, the PREACHING! Then he starts searching for the next run. I know he was, I know how to look at the history in the computer. Realizing that t...
