Winter Blahs

Image
Such a negative title, but I am fighting them. Trying to stay positive, But, it's really not my favorite time of year. For years, January meant a mission trip to the Dominican Republic or a trip to Florida. A break from winter anyway. Hershey was fun but it was still winter. So, I am knitting, a set of mittens for a friend. and some more cowls. A chair found at a thrift shop, waiting for the paintbrushes,  if i could just make myself pick them up!   JWS is buying this by the case. And today... I think that I will plant this Chia Pet. My MIL received this as a gift. I think that the kids will like watching it grow. And a winner in my giveaway! Theresa of Theresa's Heartfelt Stitches won! Congrats Theresa! And I won a giveaway! I am so excited. Carmen at Primcats picked me for her unbirthday giveaway! I am watching the mail daily!

A Gift From the Past and Stash Bustin'

Image
First of all,  my mother would be horrified that I put this picture on here. She is so precise and over the top perfection with her quilts, that she would notice every imperfection here. I think that this might be the first quilt she ever made. I had forgotten all about it. It had been left behind in a long ago move. And was re-discovered and returned this week. It was mine when I was a little girl. So happy and grateful to have it back! Some yarn stash bustin'. Sure love making these cowls, and really lovin' those knitting needles out of mothballs. Finally finished all of these this morning. I got a little carried away cutting them out. and didn't want another unfinished project, so I persevered. And got them done. Into the bin for the open house... but not before a Mini-Giveaway. I am not going to advertise it. It's just for those of you that stop by here regularly. I appreciate all of you. So, if you happened in here. Just leave a comment on this post. I'll b...

Let's play a game...

called, Help Grandma Put Away the Christmas Decorations! OK, so I am a little late and it isn't Hide and Go Seek, or a fun game like that. The boys arrived at the shop yesterday at 1:00. Jenn had a doctor's appointment. They were hyped. Really hyped, Like Someone Just Had a Smartie Eating Contest Hyped. It was a MONDAY! Phone lines were a problem, It was windy and we live in the sticks. Enough Said. John was trying to call in orders, call customers, wait on customers, book a music act for the fair, work. He says, "Do you want the afternoon off?" I say, "Of course!' and reach for MY coat. He grabs my arm and hisses, "YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN....TAKE THESE BOYS AND GO HOME!" (In man talk, that is an afternoon off?) C'mon boys we are going to go to grandma's and play a little game called, Let's Take the Christmas Decorations to the Attic! (I know, I missed the whole, Decorate for Valentine's Day thing) Not everything was still up, but the...

Kicked out of my sewing room.

Image
Happily sitting over a humming sewing machine, finishing up some gift bags that I found started in a stash, (thanks, Kim) I was rudely dragged away grabbing projects as I left.  You see, with the cold snap, the Heat Nazi, otherwise know as JWS, has decided that until it warms up, I am not allowed to sew.  His words, "You have enough other places to craft in this house, you are out of here until it warms up...we are not heating this room!' The nerve! I guess I will paint. No idea what to do with the white cupboard doors in the  new stash, and even more puzzling was the beadboard ones, I tried this.  And a mailbox bank for a customer.   And...I guess I can still knit until it warms up. Although, I have to fix a bowling glove thing for my son-in-law this morning, Where is my winter coat? Can I really sew with mittens on?

An afternoon with the boys.

They were at work with us, they were a little "antsy" I mentioned that if they cleaned up... I would take them home for the afternoon.... It started like this. Two little angels loving my phone and the bowling app. Don't they look innocent and well-behaved?   And then... This happened. See the little one still calmly sitting there playing with my phone?   See the mess increasing and the little one still is entertained quietly...   Even as the fun amps up...he is still calm.   Still being the perfect child.   Like that was going to last.   NOT!!!   And then it escalated. Plastic candy cane sword fighting.   And the words of the day when they went to my sewing room to get the candy canes. Tyler takes a look at my sewing room, which I am trying to clean and reorganize and says, 'What is this mess?" and then "You better get this cleaned up before Mommy sees this" I ask why. To which he replies, "My mom hates messes, she REALLY...

Busy Hands

That really need to get busier. The month is almost over! Once again, I had these huge plans for January and what happened? It is almost gone and I still have orders that need done. This board is for my Mom's Sunday School class. Probably too much of this. Knitting and Recliner time. Last night, in the spirit of the upcoming holiday, I tried this. There is a lot more wool laying on my end table. And JWS and Shawnee You can be happy that I finally cut up the pink coat. You see, I bought this coat at a yard sale more than several years ago. Pink. Lots of wool. The woman was horrified that I would cut it up. Really? It's not as if she was going to wear it any longer. She refused to sell it to me unless I was going to wear it. So I did. I wore it a few times. It was warm. But really, it was a lot of pink. So now. It is going to be bowl fillers for Valentine's Day. I am heading over to add a bunch of goodies to my selling blog IF this computer will co-operate. It has iss...

The Sweetest Place on Earth

Image
And what do you think this has done to the fit of my jeans? It is so not good! Hershey Kisses in your room, with your restaurant bill, in bowls scattered throughout the hotel. Chocolate desserts everyday... Carrots and Celery here I come this week! What a nice weekend though. Entertainment everywhere you looked! More on that later though. I just can't fit it all in one post. One of the highlights of the weekend was reconnecting with a friend that I had lost contact with over the years. We had lunch, talked and wandered around Harrisburg. I had not seen her in 22 years and we picked up right where we left off, talking and laughing as if we had been together yesterday. Amazing! More to come on my weekend. I have to figure out how to get the pictures off of my phone. Yes, the phone. One of my new obsessions. Love the GPS feature. (although I am seriously blaming it for taking me down a one-way busy street in Harrisburg the wrong way) The other new obsession. These cowls. Nat...
