Gypsy Curtains

Image
Still trying to decorate  with minimal purchasing,  I find myself on Pinterest a  lot. I had these scarves,  some from an auction  and  some had been  my  mother in law's. Curtains!  Gypsy Curtains!  The quilt above was made for me by my grandmother,  more than a few years ago.  59 to be exact.  The quilt below was made by my aunt that passed away earlier this year.  Since there will obviously be no cooking in this kitchen,  a quilt will be fine!  JWS,  kindly offered to look for a stove for me.... Until I kindly explained that I really don't use the stove that I have now,  so why get another one.  So camp for me will be stove less and  television free!

One Week

Image
Actually is was less than a week,  when I took leave of my senses,  got tons of visions of having a studio and  perhaps somewhere along the line my mind forgot my age and  sent me on a tailspin that made every  place in my body hurt.  A place to work all my own. A place where you can break  all decorating rules, and perhaps a few CLEANING rules,  it is well worth the pain!    Check out this throwaway cupboard.  The first pic is the color I am headed for, but the red needs touched up first.      This will be my paint table for the time being.  I love the big window and  all the light!  Still tweaking the living room. That couch is just not comfortable so I am trying just pillows on the back instead of the cushions.  I think it is helping.   Now to cover the pillows.  This workspace is going to be prepping and fi...

Annie Oakley meets Rainbow Brite

Shelby's words, not mine, But they might be a pretty accurate!   I think that the quilt is softening the purple,  but maybe I am delusional!  This cabinet/counter is almost in place,  thanks to my son in law and his friend.  Soon it will be full of paint supplies  and ready for prepping and finishing projects!  It is always good to have strong backs around.  My Easter family celebration  is next week,  so I might slip in some time  working on this project today.    I hope that you and your family have a very Happy Easter and  remember that we serve a risen Lord!  Personally, I had a huge answer to prayer in my life this weekend.  Emotional for me in that it has been an on-going  struggle that I have never turned over to God  until yesterday.  And He answered, quickly and I have peace. James 4:2 You have not because you a...

Moving right along

Image
Camp Two Doors Down  is  moving right along.  I am not sure that this old body is keeping up though. Every part of my body is screaming!  It is screaming, "You idiot, do you think you are 30 again?" One more room to finish painting...for now and  then some scrubbing and decorating and  the big move of all my paints!  and brushes and supplies and clutter. Well, lets be honest, borderline hoard.  When I opened the shed, I found this beauty!  It will be my basecoat and varnish station.  Can't wait to get it moved.    Found this mount in the upstairs bedroom, because really,  no camp in Pennsylvania is complete without deer antlers.      And this beauty is going to hang in the purple hallway. This is one of the first, if maybe not the first quilt that my mother made.  It was on my bed more than a few years ago,...

Sometimes you need a little purple....

It came up suddenly, on a whim, crazy, jump in with both feet, don't take time to think about it decision. Jennifer had this house to rent and we cut a deal. I have needed a place to work. For all the years that I have painted and crafted and sewed, I have used spare bedrooms. I have secretly coveted spaces those people that have posted pictures of their studios and craft spaces on social media. (although I secretly wonder about the organization and cleanliness of them)   I have toyed with an idea of a camp for years, a she shed, a creative space.   I have pictured it my mind many times.   So, here I go!     The purple?   I have already  heard comments of crack house, meth lab, whorehouse, and one well-meaning niece who thinks I am channeling my 1970's years and honestly, those are from friends and family who love me!   The outside o...

Mandala Tutorial

Simple Tools Sketchbook or Paper Dollar Store Drafting Tools (although I am shopping for some better ones) Pencil Sharpie Pen (or your favorite, that just happens to be mine) Draw concentric circles and divide them up.    This one is at 30% increments but you can choose,  just so it is even.  You will do this lightly with a pencil so that  it can be erased later.  Then you just start creating  Don't worry about a ruler. In the end the lines will look fine.  This one is mostly simple straight lines.  I never have an idea in mind,  I just wait and see what happens.  You will make a line and repeat the  same line the whole way around.  And remember, it is only paper. Big rule of thumb with a sketchbook,  never rip out a page,  your mistakes could become  masterpieces!  I repeated that same idea in one of the bigger circles....
