Thursday night I start pottery classes again. They are such a great time with friends and it is so relaxing to make such a mess! I am not very good at it, but I keep plugging away in the hopes that someday I will make something bigger than a small cereal bowl. The studio where I take classes has a unique and generous approach to the classes. You pay for your six weeks of class, however during that six weeks her studio is open for you to use at any time day or night. I have not taken advantage of this in the past, however I have high hopes to make a tea set for my granddaughter's birthday in this session and her first birthday is this month so I hope to take advantage of using the studio more during this session in order to get the tea set finished.

It is hard to believe that little girl is going to be a year old already! Seems like just yesterday we were waiting her arrival, although it seems like yesterday I was waiting her mother's arrival. How time flies!

I have this great idea to make canvases of all the kids handprints, the ones that I bought at Michaels the other day so I am taking a break from the knitting frenzy that I have been on and am off to warm up the paint brushes. They have been idle too long!

Congradulations to Natalie,I have attempted to make my firsst penny rug, however where i jioned them together I didnt like the look of. Do your sew them from the back, i sewed them in the front and I could see the stitching. Yours looks so neat, how do you get htat look? Thanks Dawn

Some of you asked for this. This is literally one of the EASIEST, most appreciated projects that I have ever made. I timed myself while I made this one and it was finished in under 1/2 hour and that included refilling bobbins, taking pictures, and searching the button box for two matching buttons. They are even faster if 1.) you don't do all of the above and 2.) you make them on an assembly line. Step 1. Cut a piece of fabric for the straps 4 inches wide by 14 or so inches long. If you have a very lightweight fabric, you can double it or use press on interfacing to back it. Step 2. Cut two coordinating rectangles approximately 12 to 15 inches by 15 to 18 inches. This is very loose, you can use vary the size of them. Pin those together on the bottom and halfway up the sides. Step 3. Press the 4 inch rectangle in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and sew around raw edges, then zig - zag the edge. If the fabric frays really bad, you can go over it again. Step 4

Sharpie Markers and Alcohol = Really Quick Art

What a fun, creative process!  Grab all those sharpies that are hidden in your desk drawer. Find that bottle of rubbing alcohol. (Vodka or hand  sanitize might work, you can always experiment) Dig out a canvas,  or go buy some,  nothing like having some blank canvases hanging around.  Draw some wild and crazy lines. Fast and not a lot of planning work best.  Hit it all with some alcohol.  Allow it to move and blend.  I use a brush for the alcohol,  You could use a spray bottle or eye dropper,  I just want a little more control on mine.  And re-outline with a black sharpie!   That's it!  Fast Art!  I will be teaching this next Friday along with two other  fun projects in Mayville, New York.  For more info go to: https://www.facebook.com/ARTRetreatatthelake

Steps to a snowman face, Part 1.

Sketch in the face. Use chalk (I like welder's chalk) and don't be afraid. After all, it is a snowman and they are all different so you can't get it wrong. Paint the face white or light gray or light blue. Just get a base on it and let that dry. Then, and you have to work sort of fast to do this part, lay in three values of color. This one is a medium country blue, a lighter blue and white. I also frequently use Milk Chocolate, Cocoa and an Off-White. Experiment, you might find a better combination. Then Blend, Blend, Blend. I use the largest brush that I can fit in the area. Keep a paper towel folded in your hand and keep wiping your brush. Do not dip it back into the water at this point. Blend between the dark and medium, wipe your brush, blend between the medium and light. Nice soft blend between the values. And then, wipe your brush again and pick up white and drybrush more white in the lightest area. I like to drybrush a little white in the dark areas also. I t
