Easy Drawstring Bag Tutorial

Image
Struggling with Blogger. Honestly,  I thought that the problems I had were with the computer and  now a new computer and it does the same things.  I cant center the pics  but here goes.  I needed something quick to make and sell that we use up  the  hoard I mean stash of material that I have acquired, My mom told me about a woman that had these  at a craft show and how well they were selling.  As any of you know that I have read my ramblings,  I don't get real precise with measurements... who needs all that structure in their life anyway.  So,  take your piece of material and cut it into manageable bag sizes.  Keep in mind that I folded these so that there is only a bottom and side seam so make allowances for that in your cutting.  After zig-zagging at least 15 of these,  I decided to pink them instead,  because really,  stash busting...

Primitive Carrots Tutorial

Image
A couple of years ago, I made the girls Easter décor for Christmas.   We laughingly called these the $200 carrots because of all the time invested in them.   Since then I have simplified the process a little and now actually enjoy making them.   You will need: Aluminum Foil Twine Scraps of fabric Some type of tags (I used paper office supply ones) Bits of greenery Hot glue gun Dark and light orange paint For one carrot, I use about 12 inches of aluminum foil. Fold it once to about an 1 1/2" from the side and then again about 2" down.   This helps make the shape of the carrot. Roll it up and scrunce it in on the bottom. Glue the twine to the bottom. Then glue the greenery in the top.   This allows the glue to set up on the bottom before you start wrapping and honestly saves some finger burns.   Then simply start wrapping. Until they are covered. I painted mine firs...

Covered Hanger Tutorial

Image
These little dresses. Found at yard sales and in boxes of aprons are adorable. But how to display them.    On a really cold winter day, what better place to hole up than this sunny, cheery sewing room.   I really don't spend enough time here.   Decorative hangers.   I have been told that they don't sell without cute hangers.   So, I raid the four year old grandson's closet, a quick peruse of Pinterest for ideas and away I go. This could easily be adapted to adult hangers though. Find a piece of material to fit the hanger, doubled. I have this awesome stash of drapery and upholstery sample books! Cut the fabric about an inch bigger than the hanger. Might as well make more than one. Press under the bottom edge and hem. Add some type of decoration on the fronts. Speaking of stashes.  There happens to be an awesome stash of lace, trims and ric rac in my sewing room. Sew the...

Spring Tag Free Tutorial

Image
These are about the easiest and least expensive craft EVER!   I am really not sure I NEED this many of these but once I got going, I could not quit!   So you will need:   Laminate samples Paper Xacto knife White Glue Sanding block Antiquing or paint or ink pad Leftover ribbon scraps   Now, first of all, I am not going to condone stealing laminate samples from your local Lowes or Home Depot, but hey, you just might want to change out that countertop someday and some samples would be helpful!   Mine, however came from Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse   http://pccr.org/   for $5 for a huge bag of them. If you have never been there, it is worth the trip.   I always find something to bring home!   Not that I haven't needed samples just in case I want to change my countertop.. in the past.   And the print on the paper? I found it at: ...

Owls, Revamped

Image
First of all, you will need this post.   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2011/05/wool-owl-tutorial.html which I promptly forgot I had even written. (It's the old age setting in, but we'll save that for another ramble)   It explains the basics of how to make these.   I thought that they needed to stand alone. Or maybe owls "perch"? And so, they were adjusted.   The bottom of the pattern was flattened out. And this cute little gusset was inserted.     And there you have it... Owls, revamped.   No longer bowl fillers, now shelf sitters.

Free Crochet Bracelet Tutorial - Fast!

Image
These are very fast to make.   The sample one took less than 1/2 hour to finish, and that included, taking the pictures, writing down directions, checking Facebook,  recharging my camera battery, getting another cup of coffee, and adding wood to the fire.   (sensing a little ADD here?) (I would take a pill, but really, wouldn't that stifle creativity and productivity)   Anyway, back to the directions...   You will need:   scraps of worsted weight yarn Size F crochet hook vintage button or earring or small pin Think creative folks! and less than 1/2 hour.             Chain 8 leaving about a five inch tail. Turn and single crochet in second chain from hook. Skip two chains and work 5 double crochets in the next chain. Skip 2 more chains and work a single crochet in the last chain. Chain 3 Turn Work two ...
