Productive Saturday

Finally I had a day that actually felt productive! I started the morning slowly by finishing the second Philip Gulley book, Just Shy of Harmony, loved it also. I can't wait to get back to the library to get more of them. That will be on this week's list since as of Monday I can officially DRIVE! I have been driving around town, but will feel as though I have wings when I can actually leave town! I worked on some surprise projects that I can't post here and then finished this necklace that I had started awhile ago and had lost interest in it. (in the photography process, I realized that my pillows all need washed...on the list for today!)
Finished quilting, grunged it up and framed this piece of quilt for the princess' toy room.

And then when I finally sat down to rest last night I worked on this hat and scarf. I did some tidying in my sewing room and blocked and finished hats and scarves and packed them away. I will be starting my third plastic bin of hats and scarves, the two that I have barely close. I have a couple of schools that said that they need them in the fall and hope to find another local charity that can use them. I have my Dad making the hats also now, who would have thought that I would have this many!
I'll be drawing for the giveaway sometime this afternoon!

Wow...you've been busy! Just popped in to say thanks for the nice comment on my blog. I'm glad you are involved in Mission Trips...aren't they fun and rewarding!?!?! I have a friend who's going to Kenya this year.

I just found out that there is a big drive for "mission" work in Galveston (which is a hour south of me). I'm really excited about being able to help those in my own back yard too!

Some of you asked for this. This is literally one of the EASIEST, most appreciated projects that I have ever made. I timed myself while I made this one and it was finished in under 1/2 hour and that included refilling bobbins, taking pictures, and searching the button box for two matching buttons. They are even faster if 1.) you don't do all of the above and 2.) you make them on an assembly line. Step 1. Cut a piece of fabric for the straps 4 inches wide by 14 or so inches long. If you have a very lightweight fabric, you can double it or use press on interfacing to back it. Step 2. Cut two coordinating rectangles approximately 12 to 15 inches by 15 to 18 inches. This is very loose, you can use vary the size of them. Pin those together on the bottom and halfway up the sides. Step 3. Press the 4 inch rectangle in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and sew around raw edges, then zig - zag the edge. If the fabric frays really bad, you can go over it again. Step 4

Sharpie Markers and Alcohol = Really Quick Art

What a fun, creative process!  Grab all those sharpies that are hidden in your desk drawer. Find that bottle of rubbing alcohol. (Vodka or hand  sanitize might work, you can always experiment) Dig out a canvas,  or go buy some,  nothing like having some blank canvases hanging around.  Draw some wild and crazy lines. Fast and not a lot of planning work best.  Hit it all with some alcohol.  Allow it to move and blend.  I use a brush for the alcohol,  You could use a spray bottle or eye dropper,  I just want a little more control on mine.  And re-outline with a black sharpie!   That's it!  Fast Art!  I will be teaching this next Friday along with two other  fun projects in Mayville, New York.  For more info go to: https://www.facebook.com/ARTRetreatatthelake

Steps to a snowman face, Part 1.

Sketch in the face. Use chalk (I like welder's chalk) and don't be afraid. After all, it is a snowman and they are all different so you can't get it wrong. Paint the face white or light gray or light blue. Just get a base on it and let that dry. Then, and you have to work sort of fast to do this part, lay in three values of color. This one is a medium country blue, a lighter blue and white. I also frequently use Milk Chocolate, Cocoa and an Off-White. Experiment, you might find a better combination. Then Blend, Blend, Blend. I use the largest brush that I can fit in the area. Keep a paper towel folded in your hand and keep wiping your brush. Do not dip it back into the water at this point. Blend between the dark and medium, wipe your brush, blend between the medium and light. Nice soft blend between the values.
