Curb Appeal has begun

A little over a week ago, we started on this.
And now we have this.  Fence down, shrubs and trees trimmed, and it is starting to look better.  Dear hubby and I are falling into bed at night totally exhausted, but well rewarded when we look out the windows of our house and no longer see chain link fence surrounding a jungle.  We will be taking that enclosed porch back to a regular porch and residing the house.  I can picture it in my mind.  I think it is going to look nice!
I needed something new for my dining room table and had picked up this canning jar lifter thingie at a yard sale for fifty cents and my mom had found the tray also for fifty cents.  Berry vine, $11.99 and the little bird and nest for around $6 at the local shop, the rest was just gathered stuff and a quick trip to my MIL's yard this morning yielded the flowers.  Not bad for under $20.

And speaking of nests.  I changed some lights on my porch this morning, have been waiting to do this until I saw no more signs of birds at this nest.  I was surprised when I pulled it down to find these eggs in it.  Do birds just abandon the eggs? 
Kendall is here staying with me, Shelby had her wisdom teeth out yesterday.  It was Kendall's first time to stay anywhere overnight and she has slept now for almost 12 hours.  How hard is this? 
Now to get a shower before she wakes up....why didn't I think of that sooner?

Wow, you have been busy!
Nice job on the yard nice clean fresh look.

It's funny how people don't seem to notice when a yard is getting overgrown. I guess we wait so long for plants to take root and grow that we try not to think about pruning back.

I hope you have been having a good summer. Mine just flew by but we did get a few things done around the house here so it hasn't been a total loss.

Some of you asked for this. This is literally one of the EASIEST, most appreciated projects that I have ever made. I timed myself while I made this one and it was finished in under 1/2 hour and that included refilling bobbins, taking pictures, and searching the button box for two matching buttons. They are even faster if 1.) you don't do all of the above and 2.) you make them on an assembly line. Step 1. Cut a piece of fabric for the straps 4 inches wide by 14 or so inches long. If you have a very lightweight fabric, you can double it or use press on interfacing to back it. Step 2. Cut two coordinating rectangles approximately 12 to 15 inches by 15 to 18 inches. This is very loose, you can use vary the size of them. Pin those together on the bottom and halfway up the sides. Step 3. Press the 4 inch rectangle in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and sew around raw edges, then zig - zag the edge. If the fabric frays really bad, you can go over it again. Step 4

Sharpie Markers and Alcohol = Really Quick Art

What a fun, creative process!  Grab all those sharpies that are hidden in your desk drawer. Find that bottle of rubbing alcohol. (Vodka or hand  sanitize might work, you can always experiment) Dig out a canvas,  or go buy some,  nothing like having some blank canvases hanging around.  Draw some wild and crazy lines. Fast and not a lot of planning work best.  Hit it all with some alcohol.  Allow it to move and blend.  I use a brush for the alcohol,  You could use a spray bottle or eye dropper,  I just want a little more control on mine.  And re-outline with a black sharpie!   That's it!  Fast Art!  I will be teaching this next Friday along with two other  fun projects in Mayville, New York.  For more info go to: https://www.facebook.com/ARTRetreatatthelake

Steps to a snowman face, Part 1.

Sketch in the face. Use chalk (I like welder's chalk) and don't be afraid. After all, it is a snowman and they are all different so you can't get it wrong. Paint the face white or light gray or light blue. Just get a base on it and let that dry. Then, and you have to work sort of fast to do this part, lay in three values of color. This one is a medium country blue, a lighter blue and white. I also frequently use Milk Chocolate, Cocoa and an Off-White. Experiment, you might find a better combination. Then Blend, Blend, Blend. I use the largest brush that I can fit in the area. Keep a paper towel folded in your hand and keep wiping your brush. Do not dip it back into the water at this point. Blend between the dark and medium, wipe your brush, blend between the medium and light. Nice soft blend between the values. And then, wipe your brush again and pick up white and drybrush more white in the lightest area. I like to drybrush a little white in the dark areas also. I t
