Sometimes you need a little purple....

It came up suddenly,
on a whim,
crazy,
jump in with both feet,
don't take time to think
about it
decision.
Jennifer had this house to rent
and
we cut a deal.
I have needed a place to work.
For all the years that I have painted
and
crafted
and
sewed,
I have used spare bedrooms.
I have secretly coveted spaces those people
that have posted pictures of their
studios and craft spaces
on social media.
(although I secretly wonder about
the organization and
cleanliness of them)
 
I have toyed with an idea of a camp
for years,
a she shed,
a creative space.
 
I have pictured it my mind many times.
 
So, here I go!  
 
The purple?  
I have already  heard comments of
crack house,
meth lab,
whorehouse,
and one well-meaning niece who
thinks I am channeling my
1970's years
and honestly,
those are from friends and family
who love me!
 
The outside of this house is bland.
 
 I want the inside to scream
FUN AND CREATIVITY!
Anything but boring! 
 
So, I am off and running!

Bring on the color! Don't let anyone hold you back! My stitching room is lilac. People comment all the time. It's wonderful to be surrounded by color!

You've got a whole house for a craft space? I think I'm jealous...lol I personally prefer light colors on walls but I'm also a firm believer in doing what makes you happy. If purple is it then good for you :)

Some of you asked for this. This is literally one of the EASIEST, most appreciated projects that I have ever made. I timed myself while I made this one and it was finished in under 1/2 hour and that included refilling bobbins, taking pictures, and searching the button box for two matching buttons. They are even faster if 1.) you don't do all of the above and 2.) you make them on an assembly line. Step 1. Cut a piece of fabric for the straps 4 inches wide by 14 or so inches long. If you have a very lightweight fabric, you can double it or use press on interfacing to back it. Step 2. Cut two coordinating rectangles approximately 12 to 15 inches by 15 to 18 inches. This is very loose, you can use vary the size of them. Pin those together on the bottom and halfway up the sides. Step 3. Press the 4 inch rectangle in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and sew around raw edges, then zig - zag the edge. If the fabric frays really bad, you can go over it again. Step 4

Sharpie Markers and Alcohol = Really Quick Art

What a fun, creative process!  Grab all those sharpies that are hidden in your desk drawer. Find that bottle of rubbing alcohol. (Vodka or hand  sanitize might work, you can always experiment) Dig out a canvas,  or go buy some,  nothing like having some blank canvases hanging around.  Draw some wild and crazy lines. Fast and not a lot of planning work best.  Hit it all with some alcohol.  Allow it to move and blend.  I use a brush for the alcohol,  You could use a spray bottle or eye dropper,  I just want a little more control on mine.  And re-outline with a black sharpie!   That's it!  Fast Art!  I will be teaching this next Friday along with two other  fun projects in Mayville, New York.  For more info go to: https://www.facebook.com/ARTRetreatatthelake

Steps to a snowman face, Part 1.

Sketch in the face. Use chalk (I like welder's chalk) and don't be afraid. After all, it is a snowman and they are all different so you can't get it wrong. Paint the face white or light gray or light blue. Just get a base on it and let that dry. Then, and you have to work sort of fast to do this part, lay in three values of color. This one is a medium country blue, a lighter blue and white. I also frequently use Milk Chocolate, Cocoa and an Off-White. Experiment, you might find a better combination. Then Blend, Blend, Blend. I use the largest brush that I can fit in the area. Keep a paper towel folded in your hand and keep wiping your brush. Do not dip it back into the water at this point. Blend between the dark and medium, wipe your brush, blend between the medium and light. Nice soft blend between the values. And then, wipe your brush again and pick up white and drybrush more white in the lightest area. I like to drybrush a little white in the dark areas also. I t
