What are they? and Other Burning Questions

This is a bush/tree in the backyard.
Does anyone know what this is?

Because every summer, I think I am going to look it up,
and I never do.

Which leads me to the next question(s)?

How busy was my summer
that when I went out to see the boys off to school
I realized that my favorite chairs
on the front porch
were totally wrapped in cobwebs?

and
the SPRING flag was still up?

We are talking
tulips
daffodils
pastels.

And finally...
the burning question
of the
day
and
night...

What IS the lifespan of a cricket?
Because
there has been one in our bathroom
for almost two weeks
and
I can't seem to find it
and
surely it has to die soon.

And now...
off to find a better flag!

Knit the Bridge

For those of you that are not local,
although this did make the national news,
Knit the Bridge
is a wonderful celebration of art
allowing so many individuals and clubs to participate.
For more information,

This was my panel on the bridge.

I was so excited that it was on the inside of the bridge.

JWS graciously agreed to attend the party on the bridge yesterday.

The day would not be complete without
dinner in Market Square
and
a visit to the newly refurbished
fountain
at
Point State Park
and
walk up the river.

A great day in Pittsburgh!

Random Act of Kindness

And I was the recipient!

Thursday found me in Ohio
for
a
Mom day
and
a little retail therapy.

Mom and I have not just spent a day alone shopping in ages.
No kids, no grand kids...just us.

While I am not a huge shopping person,
we had a great time.

Pat Catan's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's
the mall,
and
even a
flea market/junk store.

Everything that was missing in my craft supplies is restocked.
(and then some)

We ended the day at this great little
independent restaurant a little off the beaten path
(by Youngstown standards)
Off the beaten path where I live is another dimension...
but anyway...

I saw this great poster on the wall.
Idora Park.
Unless you are a native of Youngstown and the surrounding area
or an extreme coaster enthusiast,
or
a trolley car park buff,
that name means nothing to you.
but for the ones who do know
Idora Park,
there are fond memories of
summer picnics,
a great carousel,
the Lost River,
Hooterville Highway,
the flying cages,
two great wooden coasters
concerts
and
so much more.

The park is gone,
but the memories will always be there.

At any rate,
I asked our waitress if she knew anything about where the poster came from.
She sent out the owner of the restaurant
and he told me that a friend of his prints them
and
that they are available on Ebay.
He left to go and look for the Ebay site for me
and
came back just a few minutes later
with a cardboard sleeve
with a poster in it
and
GAVE IT TO ME!!

What a nice gesture from a stranger!
I was thrilled and when I left, I went straight to buy a frame.

It is now hanging in my paint room
where I can see the memories daily!

The Restaurant
Stop over and like them on Facebook!

Great place, great food, awesome pierogies!

One special part left of Idora Park
and
on my bucket list to ride it once more.

School Days

So hard to believe that this little one is now going!
Where did that time go?
She loved it,
the best part,
as she told me,
was
riding the bus!

Kendall was on hand to see her off.

And Mommy tearfully said "Good-bye"
at the bus.
Who am I kidding?
It was not tearfully,
not dab your eyes, misty-eyed sad...
it was bawling, sobbing, gasping for breath,
make a scene
all out
near hysteria..
sad.

It was a rough one for Shawnee.

These two, on the other hand, are veterans of day one.
Their mom was a little misty eyed, though.

For the first time in eight years,
we are without a child
at work with us.

Not to worry,
in two weeks we get Kendall three times a week.

JWS' comment,
"You just couldn't do without a child here at work,
it was too much to not run a day care along
with work."

Yep!

Where I have been...

A week long event that takes a lot of the summer
to prepare for,
a week of the fair which equals little sleep
and a lot of work
and
another week to recuperate.

I am on the recuperation end of it.
And the
cleaning up,
putting away,
trying to salvage my yard and plants,
working through the mountain of laundry
and
bills
and
mail
and
messages.

But most of all...
trying to catch up on
SLEEP!
