Auction Night

Image
Last night was another auction at our local fairgrounds. The fair board sells the food at these auctions. Some of us spend way more than the fair board makes. Money in, money out. We sure have fun at them though! I saw this quilt come up for bid. Somehow, I had missed it in my early preview. Since we have to get food ready ahead of time, I manage to peruse the goods prior to the auction. Missed this! I did get it for what I thought was a good price. It looks like feed sack material. The stitching is really nice.   (Just as a side note, Blogger is being a little contemptible about loading pictures in order or at all. )     Also, scored this ice sign.  I missed that in the preview also. I have been looking for one of these for awhile and didn't want to pay the high $$$ that they were running.   There are more treasures in my car, it was raining when we came home and we were tired.   However, right now, I am drink

Laundry Day

Image
We took a little ride on Monday to find an Amish canvas shop and soon realized that it was laundry day. I wish I could have got more pictures, but, JWS was going a little faster than I realized. Most of them were pretty blurry. And then, this is what we found. Yes, that does say, "Call at house 1-800-WHOA" Apparently, that is Amish humor. We snapped a few pics while we waited. Beehives on the ceiling. And how about this adding machine?   Finally, this week, I managed to finish the cushion covers for my camper dinette.   The procrastination was worse than the job.

How Bizarre!

Image
The boys and I made these owls. Not only is it the general consensus of those around here that they are just a little weird, but now the picture won't post right side up. How Bizarre! I have to find sticks for the boys' owls to perch on. and drill holes for hanging in the trees outside. They were for them to give to their Mom and other grandmas.   I have a feeling they will all be hanging in my trees. That's OK. I love them!   Prior to the spring warm-up, and the commencement of spring mowing, I was seriously working on stash busting all the yarn I have accumulated. This afghan is finished.    I think it will go in the camper. The rest will be part of the new Yarn Bomb. Watch for it! And for those of you that DRIVE by my house... Watch for Coal Trucks! You know who you are.   This will hopefully be the biggest yarn bomb in Dayton to date! Last Sunday, I finally got a new chair for my pain

Shoe Snob? Not Me!

Image
Absolutely not! Some of the best wearing shoes and most comfortable shoes that I have owned have been purchased at thrift stores or handed down from my kids.   That being said, there are two types of shoes that I am picky about. Athletic shoes (JWS informed me that I was no longer allowed to refer to them as "tennis" shoes) (he also informed me that I really didn't qualify to call them "running" shoes) (I know that I am stretching it calling them "athletic" shoes) ("Old lady, trying to work off winter fat" shoes, just is too bulky to say) and Winter Boots (we will leave those for another post...like maybe October) The pair pictured above are way past their prime. The are actually smooth on the bottom. Believe it or not, they have over the recommended 500 miles on them.  I have been procrastinating the purchase of a new pair. The chore of shopping for them causes nothing short of

If Only

If only, reading a fortune cookie made it come true!   Happy? Most of the time. Peaceful? Rarely.

Pot Lid Panic

Image
So,  yesterday... Let's just say that I was multi-tasking. I mean, it was nice and I had a day at home and the ADD really kicked in high gear. No focus, way too many irons in the fire. Way too many. There were clothes on the line, beds were stripped, the yard was getting cleaned up, trees were getting trimmed, some painting was getting done, butternut squash pies were being made, macaroni and cheese, pot lids and other various metal items were getting sprayed and anyone who knows me, know that when all this happens, something is going to scorch burn IGNITE!   I get out a pan for the pasta and.... can't find the lid!    I feel my neck get hot, I am fumbling, I am not looking at JWS.. nothing, no eye contact. I am frantically digging in the cupboard and thinking... (really screaming in my mind) OHMYGOODNESSDONTEVENTELLMEITOOKTHATPOTLID OUTSIDEANDSPRAYEDITJWSISGOINGTOKILLME!!!   Then I remembe

Baskets from Haiti

Image
My pastor just returned from Haiti. He goes there a lot and every now and then he brings baskets back for me. These showed up the other day when he visited.  So pretty and durable.   Several years ago he brought this one home. And six years ago this month, Shawnee and I traveled there and I brought this one home. It is really durable and holds the dinosaurs for the grandchildren. They love to play with them.   This one was actually too big to fit in anywhere and became my carry on for the entire trip home.   I took a lot of teasing for that.   We are having a beautiful day here, nothing like nice weather to energize a body!   Hope that all of you are having a great Saturday!

Justification

Image
I will try to keep this as brief as possible, but I would like it stated for Justification as to why I forget things. That would be things like oil changes, doctor appointments, paying taxes.... you know, the "things" that just get lost somewhere.   So, here is how the day went. Hang on.   Up at 5:30 with the vibrating phone text that said I didn't have to go to Shelby's and keep Kendall because she was sick. That could have been a game changer. Return to Plan A. (Luckily, I remembered Plan A) Make the coffee, update the blog, cuddle through a Tom and Jerry with Gracelyn, head to the sewing room with Gracelyn in tow to finish these.   I would like to interject here after the lecture from Gracelyn to get rid of stuff that all of these came out of that "stuff". Boys come in before school, Gracelyn watches them get on the bus. Dress Gracelyn (yes, she did go to the bus stop in her pajamas)
