Three Little Pigs

Image
Another hectic week in.  The theme for this one is Three Little Pigs or Pork Fat Rules OR How many gun raffles can you attend in one month? Two gun raffles would be enough for one lifetime for me. Let alone, two in a month. Back to last Saturday, John attends this huge, how can you get any more redneck, extravaganza gun raffle annually. He looks forward to it like Christmas. He asked me to go this year.  Reluctantly, I said yes. I mean after all, He has endured craft shows, art fairs, quilt shops, and more. It's only one day. How bad can it be? It was bad. It was sitting in a traffic jam for hours, twelve hour layover in airport without your cell phone, stuck in an elevator with smelly people kind of bad. I looked for the fun. I tried. Really, I did. It just wasn't there. And then the food. Three types of pork. Sausage Kielbasi Pulled Pork. All excellent, mind you. Two types of cabbage, Sauerkraut and Coleslaw Corn and Potatoes. Anyone want to venture what that menu does to ...

300th post!

Image
Who would have ever thought? Boy, do I talk a lot ! Nothing monumental to tell, to mark the occasion, just the same old blah, blah, blah that I normally do, read more by family and friends than anything. Thanks for reading, thanks for your comments (I love comments), thanks for giving me an ear to vent, to tell, to brag about my grandchildren, to show my "creations" and to air the day to day stories! A late birthday present from the Disney travelers. Shawnee stitched this pillow for me. I had seen this on a plaque somewhere and have always wanted it somewhere in my house. It will sit in my recliner. I love it! And for the weekend. No, this is not me, but here are my weekend plans. I will be walking my first 5K on Saturday. After John finished the half marathon on Sunday, we all thought is was over, the training, the talking, the PREACHING! Then he starts searching for the next run. I know he was, I know how to look at the history in the computer. Realizing that t...

Free weekend? Right!

Image
This picture disappeared from the bottom of the page and since I have no idea how to move these pics we'll just have to deal with it here. Let's see, a week ago, this was to be my almost "free" weekend. Those are very rare around here. The only thing planned was the girls and I had tickets for the Rockettes last night and dinner in Pittsburgh. Friday night, nothing, Saturday AM, nothing, Sunday, church and then nothing. Getting the picture? I had wanted to have Gracelyn this week and the week just got away from me. I did see her on Tuesday when Shawnee and I took the kids bowling but it seems like I never get enough "alone" time with her so when Shawnee called at 4:30 on Friday asking for a last minute babysitter, I jumped at the chance to have Gracelyn and enjoy her. Saturday AM, should have found me cleaning house for the company that is showing up later today but instead I ran Gracelyn home and then on to town for the list that had been compiling here an...

Peanut Butter Festival

Image
Yesterday morning was spent at the Peanut Butter Festival...well so was part of Friday Night. There is a Smuckers plant in New Bethlehem, Pa and the Festival is a yearly event. Fun, small town event, I love those! This is the welcoming sign as you drive into town. We were there early for the 5k Run yesterday and after the runners took off, I walked to the creek with my camera and got this shot. All of the downtown decorates with peanuts. All the businesses have peanut displays in their windows and I was fascinated with these light up peanuts. Just where do you go to shop for light up peanuts? The midway of the festival was not really open at the hour of the morning. Landscaping in town and the bridge over Redbank Creek. John is finishing the run. He took almost three more minutes off the time of his last run. Some of the craft booths just beginning to open. And the view at the creek again once the fog cleared. This is the little restaurant in Hawthorn, PA where we had a...

5K Heinz Field

Image
How appropriate I thought these flowers were planted outside of Heinz Field. Black and Gold! The first part of today was spent at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. This was John's 2nd 5k Run. Our son-in-law, Chris decided to run it also. This was the "before" picture of the runners. Jenn and Chris The start of the race. There were over 3000 runners! Waiting for the return, Jenn and I took in some sights.... The entrance to Heinz Field. just in the event that some of you are not familiar, this is the home of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers! The city skyline, Duquesne Incline Heinz Field Architecture The Carnegie Science Center John crossing the finish line! He cut several minutes off of his last 5k finish. I missed a pic of Chris crossing. He had a great finish also considering that he had not been training. And then he had a "moment". Standing in line for the runner's snacks after the race, he said that it was not that long ago, just las...

Another Rug,Yard Sales, 5K, Bike Ride...finally

Image
What a varied weekend that we had! Friday night we rested...we both needed that. I am working on another t-shirt rug, this one to go in my entryway and I have enough t-shirt yarn cut to do a bathroom rug for our bathroom....which would lead into the 5K story of the post. John has lost close to 70 pound since the first of the year. He has really worked hard at it and has been so diligent with it. He has exercised and eaten right and done it the right way. He has had this thought to run the local 5k in his mind for at least 10 years. He started to train for it this spring ( I trained with him for about 1 mile and realized it was not for me) and after having some knee problems did not keep up the training the last month, however, Friday night as I noticed he was loading up on carbs, I kind of figured that he was going to try it. Saturday AM he was up and circling and ready to go. I think he arrived at the site ahead of the organizers of the event. I had big plans to stay at hom...
