Camp Weekend

Image
This has always been my favorite weekend (long weekend) of the year.   For all my adult life, this was an "alone" weekend.   A Buck Widow Weekend.   I loved it!    And then it happened... JWS announces he no longer wishes to hunt.   Now I am sure that there are women everywhere that would love to hear that proclamation, however, it was not a happy day for me!!!   I liked my time alone. I liked my house to myself. I liked the tv remotes, sleeping when I wanted to getting up when I wanted to eating leftovers and whatever I wanted.   Not that JWS is demanding or noisy or messy or hard to be around.   (He is a remote hog though)   Last year, we compromised, New Orleans.   We spent the weekend there. It was fun.   This year nothing... but   It hasn't been bad so far. I got some canvases done And, I turned this ...

And the Curtains!

Image
Way back here   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2014/01/last-pics-until-curtains.html   I promised no more pics until the curtains.   Well, they are here!  I knew that they were shipped, I kept pestering the UPS man (as if he has any power) and yesterday he manages to bring in all the packages for the shop and tells me that once again my package is not here. Lower lip out, shoulders down, I walk away. Then he brings them in! I must say, I was excited! My sister made them for me and shipped them from Florida. She does an awesome job on curtains! Piping and little weights, they are so nice! But then I realized... I had no café rods! So before they could even be hung I had to run to town to get rods!  I think that they are just the perfect finishing touch! Now if I could just find those last three baskets that I need for the closet shelf.... but they are being quite elusive,...

Last pics until the curtains

Image
This is it, no more pictures until I receive the curtains!   I promise. A bird for the birdcage and some berry vine.   My sister warned me that a birdcage with a floral arrangement looks like a tribute to a dead bird. She likes birds, I, however, think that a dead bird... well... I guess we will just leave my opinion of birds out of this post.     My thimble collection. Started when I was a little girl and for many years stored away. Dad carved the scissors for me.   Not sure about this, I like both displays, just don't know if I like them that close together. And the Hoosier being put to good use.   This was in my Mom's neighbor's house when I was growing up.   I always liked it, even as a little girl. When my Mom had to go somewhere, which wasn't that often because she didn't have a car for years. We would go to Miss Braden's house for lunch. You see, ...

This is where I want to be,

Image
The recliner is the place for me.   One of my favorite books to read when my girls were little was Put Me In The Zoo   The critter says "This is where I want to be, the circus is the place for me!"   So,   "This is where I want to be, the recliner (in front of the fire, with a warm, steaming cup of coffee and my yarn and crochet hook) is the place for me!   Why?     This, of course!   How cold do these people look?   And doesn't this just scream COLD?   Both views from my sewing room window as I continued to organize, pitch and clean!     I have these real bad habits of 1. Buying any sewing basket I find at any sale at almost any price. 2. Stacking those in my sewing room and never going through them.   Today, I will continue to tackle that issue.   The goal of today? (Other than staying warm, of course...

If all we needed was a desk and computer...

Image
...how did I end up cleaning my sewing room? Friday it started. You see, Tuesday we get a new employee at our business. She needed a desk and computer. So off to Pittsburgh we went. With a list of other stuff that needed done also. Construction Junction Used Store Fixture Warehouse then Downtown Pittsburgh, to the Oliver Building where we found the mother load of office furniture cheap. That is where one desk turned into three, and some filing cabinets and office chairs and a credenza. No more patched together office furniture. However, It all didn't fit.. so we brought nothing home. Saturday back to Pittsburgh for a computer dialysis machine broke down, phone calls, finally clear back home, then back to Kittanning to pick up the patient. Lots of miles. Too much to explain. But.. We got the computer. An afternoon of loading software, laundry, a little more running, some grilling on the deck. Then today... I am preparing to get ready for church. JWS mentions that he is going for...

Last Yard Sale of the Year

Image
Ok, I am showing you the mess first. And for all those little thumbnail pics that come up, yes, this is the BEFORE pic. Moving Sale I found this chest. $20 The drawers move in and out easily. Perfect for the Aforementioned Mess. But really rough and dirty. So I scrubbed. and painted. Way too bright! WAY, WAY too bright! So, I found more paint.... And made more of a mess. And then drybrushed white all over it. Still not exactly what I was after, but January is coming and I'll have more time, But for now... Semi-organization.

Reorganization, Beanie, and more hats and scarves

This is the view into my sewing room, (I am still experimenting with curtains) I spent part of yesterday afternoon reorganizing it and trying to make the space more user friendly. This room was my step-daughters and she got married in September. It was the biggest bedroom other than ours and in my mind I wanted it for my sewing room. After John and I mourned her leaving and went through the whole empty nest thing .....for about three days.....we healed and I tore into this room painting and making it into my space. I found this old rocker at a yard sale for $10 and the seat needs recovered and I had not actually even sat in it, just set it in that room and stacked stuff on it. After I rearranged the room yesterday I sat down in it and I love it. It is so comfortable, now to get it recovered, another thing on the list. Does anyone else have one of these laying around? That would surely tell your age if you admit it. This was my husbands and I have lots of old toys in the one spa...
