The Bucket List

Image
Do any of you have a bucket list? That seemed to have been the topic of conversation of the weekend. I made mine when I turned 40, more than a few years ago. They were not real lofty aspirations and I have accomplished most of them. JWS has one also. Not officially written down, top of his list when asked is, "Learn to play Layla on the piano." Tonight he started. Fifty-two and he has never sat at  a piano. Doesn't read music. YouTube. He thinks he can learn it off of YouTube. He practiced. A lot. Almost two hours. Why did I move the piano closer to my paint room? Can anyone help me move it to the garage? And now... He thinks that the piano needs tuned. Really?  He thinks that will make his playing sound better. So many comments that I could make there. He wants it mastered by Christmas. We'll see. Lots happened over the weekend. On Saturday, the Holiday issue of Create and Decorate came out. This is my angel plaque!!! So excited. Sunday had us at the Canfield Fair...

Wool Ornaments Free Pattern

Image
You will need: Felted Wool and Embroidery Floss Colors of your choice Jute Assorted buttons or beads Polyfil Freezer paper Cardstock or old greeting cards. Regular Crafting Supplies This is the pattern.  This is on a sheet of 9 x 12 paper and the box is 2 1/2" x 3" I am going to take this to work with me and scan it and create a .pdf file. If you want that, email me and I will send it to you. Trace these patterns onto cardstock. I have been using old greeting cards, colorful patterns and really?.. I was beginning to hoard them, it was time to put them to use. Trace the patterns on to freezer paper. Iron the freezer paper to the wool.  You don't actually cut the pattern out of freezer paper, you leave paper around the edge of it. It is easier to cut out the wool accurately if you are cutting through the paper and the wool. Make sense? I hope so. Now go to your recliner or couch and cut away and make a big mess. I did use the rotary cutter to cut out the squares. Way fast...

Concert, Yard Sales and a Pop-Up Camper Contest

Image
What a great start to the weekend! JWS and I attended a concert with some friends on Friday night at a local fair. The Clarks are a western Pennsylvania band that will be playing at our fair this year. If you have not heard of them, check them out HERE! It was a great show and a great evening with friends. Saturday AM we were up and on our way to some yard sales and then headed to a radio show contest for a pop-up camper. Thirty miles or so into the trip, we realized that we did not have the paperwork for the contest and had to go home to get it. A little wrinkle in the plans, but a nice ride anyway. I found the game pieces shown above. And this cooler and vase. A nice old suitcase. Dad found these spools for me. A friend sent these home with Jenn for me to paint. They took a little while to appear at my house. They were in her car. Go back about two posts to read about her car and that will make sense! Another painted project.  I'll add greens and filler stuff closer to the ...

How to Trap a Gingerbread Man

Image
Sure hope that it works. Tyler needed a Gingerbread Trap for Kindergarten. It really tapped my creativity. I gave it tons of thought. And this is what we came up with. Papa helped in the logistics of it. Tyler didn't want to help because he didn't like the smell of the hot glue. But he persevered, somewhat. JWS said, "Welcome to the world of boys!" He was right, they sure don't have the attention span of girls. In the short hour that it took to make this, "Watch how fast I can run!" "When are we going to paint something?" "Are we going to make popcorn?" "I can't get the wrapper off of this candy cane" "Gramma, why do you have this big mess in this house?" "Who are all these presents for?" "Can I move them around and find mine?" "What is all this stuff in the basement?" (Doors) "Hey, your nativity set is the same as Mommy's" "Ohhhh, you painted both of them...

And more painted...

Two Giveaways

Image
Ok, these are my two giveaways. This is fun to make up your own rules! I will enter you in the drawing if you add a comment and if you mention this on your blog, I will give you three more entries, but you have to let me know in a comment that you mentioned it otherwise I am not sure how I would know?? Hey, it's my first giveaway and I am not sure how this works. When I draw the winners, the first one to contact me gets the choice of which giveway they want and the second one gets the other one. I will draw this on Sunday? I hope that is enough time for a giveaway, I feel like such a beginner here. If I am not doing this right, please let me know. Oh and the quilt is not part of the giveaway and I have a few more items in the stash for a surprise!

Dyed wool - Project 3

Image
What a beautiful day this has been. I have switched my work schedule so that I can be at home in the mornings and then at work when it is dark. I love that schedule. My mornings are so productive that way. This is one of my 30 projects that I wanted done. When I started cutting out projects I realized that I was dangerously low on browns, golds and blues in my unusually organized wool stash. I dyed these this morning using Rit dye. Probably not what a purist would use but I am always ready for the short cut. I was looking all around to see what I could hang them on when I spied this ladder that was part of the landscaping in another area of the yard. It worked perfect, however I will be collecting them in the dark tonight when I get home from work.....I hope that they are not damp. I see some really nice gingerbread men in those browns...can't wait to start cutting and sewing!
