Looking For a Service Project?

Image
We are heading into one of the busiest times of the year. My house and business are a mass of lists, deadlines, appointments... It's enough to make your head swim.   You say, "Who has time to take on anything else?"   And I agree that it sounds overwhelming, however, so many of you that read this sew, knit, crochet, paint, craft, encourage, uplift, you name it. We all have a gift! Share it this season!   Below, I am going to list all my favorite service projects from years past.   What will I do this year? Right now, I have no idea, but I do know that there are a lot of crafting supplies calling my name!   This is the most popular post on my blog, close to 12,000 hits!  Shocked?  I was and am as it continues to grow. Thrilled? Yes! That means that there are all the more people receiving these much needed bags!   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2010/04/w...

Dad's Winter Productivity

Image
Apparently, Dad has been way more productive on the winter hat projects than I have been! I made two! This is what he handed me yesterday. And, he said he had more, but dropped some at a local charity before he brought these to me.   Way to go, Dad!     Now I have to get them to some cold heads!   Could this little girl adore her new cousin any more?   She is now asking her mom for a new baby of their own.    Hmmm. And, We managed to pile them all on Great Grandma for a quick photo shoot! Not an easy task with the squirmy ones on the left.

Calling all Knitters!

Image
The weather outside is getting frightful! Why not warm up some cold little and big heads? These are literally the fastest hats EVER to knit. I can make one in an hour! And, they sure put a dent in your stash. and who among you doesn't need to stash bust? The pattern is here or here http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2010/12/fastest-hats-in-world-free-knitting.html or look on the sidebar under tutorials. Your local women's shelter, homeless shelter or even your local grade school could use warm hats, scarves and why not zip into the local discount store and buy some mittens to go along with them? C'mon, not only will it make someone else warm and fuzzy, you might just feel a little warm and fuzzy yourself!

An afternoon with the boys.

Image
They were at work with us, they were a little "antsy" I mentioned that if they cleaned up... I would take them home for the afternoon.... It started like this. Two little angels loving my phone and the bowling app. Don't they look innocent and well-behaved?   And then... This happened. See the little one still calmly sitting there playing with my phone?   See the mess increasing and the little one still is entertained quietly...   Even as the fun amps up...he is still calm.   Still being the perfect child.   Like that was going to last.   NOT!!!   And then it escalated. Plastic candy cane sword fighting.   And the words of the day when they went to my sewing room to get the candy canes. Tyler takes a look at my sewing room, which I am trying to clean and reorganize and says, 'What is this mess?" and then "You better get this cleaned up before Mommy sees this" I ask why. To which he replies, "My mom hates messes, she REALLY...

The Never Ending Projects

Image
I have myself in quite the mess. I am calling in the Never Ending Project Syndrome. You see, I started this before the Open House and never quite got it finished.  Now it is in the way and needs done and out of there but, I paint and paint and paint and there seems to be no end to it. And then I got myself into this project.  A man at our church goes to two nursing homes every Sunday and worships with the residents. What a ministry he has! I offered to make walker/wheelchair bags for his (what I thought was a little) flock. Two Sundays ago, I told him that I would have them in a week for him and oh, by the way, how many do you actually need? My mind was wrapped around the number 12. THIRTY!  was the number I heard him say. "THIRTY!" I repeated just a trifle louder and more panicked than I probably should have. Thirty it is.  I offered. So I am sewing and sewing and sewing and sewing. And then these little buggers. I had my Dad cut these way back in January....

Good, Better and I Think I Got It

Image
Well really, the first one is not really even good.  I found this pattern for crocheted mittens.  It didn't turn out so good.  The second one was knitted last night with lots of help from my local knitting guru friend, Carol.  Always good to have a knitting guru friend that understands the directions and can SHOW you what they mean.  Not perfect, but I somewhat got the concept.  Then last night when the caffeine from the delicious coffee that went with the delicious pumpkin cranberry dessert (you see my knitting guru friend can also do other amazing things like bake and cook) kicked in, I started another one and figured out the mistakes that I made on the first knitted one. I am starting to think that it might be easier to buy those dollar store gloves and mittens to go with the hats and scarves, but really....I know that I can master this and how much warmer these will be on little hands. And the most amazing purchase of the week.  Mon...

Things I finished today.

Image
Finished up these penny rugs today, I have had them cut out for quite awhile and had them in various stages of completion. One of these will be in the giveaway listed below. Don't forget to enter! Just post! Also finished this hat for the donation bin...and a couple of dishcloths. I was able to visit with my little boys for a short while today and that was so nice....they were even gentle! and didn't ask for piggyback rides or to play Dancing with the Stars. Maybe they were warned!

99th post!

Image
I can't believe that I am at my 99th post already. Watch for tomorrow's post and I'll start a giveaway of some type. I have an idea....we'll have to wait and see how that works. I would like to thank everyone for their comments of support, thoughts and prayers for my recovery. It is so nice to hear from each of you and I really appreciate you keeping me and my family in your thoughts and prayers. I am feeling better every day but it is much slower than I expected that it would be. This really has me feeling every bit of my age....and then some. It has been over 24 hours since I took any pain medication though and for that I am thankful. Tomorrow I go back to the doctor to get the staples out. The car ride could be a mixed blessing though. These are some to the items that I have been working on. They all need blocked, but the iron and ironing board are upstairs so that will have to wait. Shawnee and the princess visited this AM for a little while and she p...

She loves yarn, too!

Image
I put this crate of yarn in my sewing room with all the little leftover pieces of yarn in it. I am using them for squares for an afghan. Gracelyn had so much fun throwing the balls all over the floor last night and then she decided to "knit" them all together. That is going to take Grammie awhile to straighten out. Actually it took a little work just to get her untangled. Obseessed? I think so. I really need to pack up the Christmas decorations but I keep thinking just one more hat and scarf set, do nativities, snowmen, gingerbreads, and Santas count as Valentine's decorations? St. Patricks Day? After all they are red and green holidays....Easter? and when am I going to get that deck stained if I still have yarn? I did get the first item on the Procrastinator's Challenge finished yesterday morning. I am sure that this customer would like something in the top of this, I am thinking a flower arrangement, not that I would want it that way but I think that sh...
