A Twist on The Pennants

Image
These have been in the back of my mind for awhile. Pennants with a twist. So, after cleaning the sewing room, I messed it up again. I am always buying boxes of linens and hoarder than I am, I cannot stand to throw any of them away. Even the stained, ripped ones.   This is what I decided to do with them. Bits of fancy needlework...salvaged! Lots more to go!    The original pennant tutorial is here   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2012/11/free-pennant-tutorialvery-easy.html   The only twist?   The serger on the edges.   I bought this serger from a friend this summer.   It has sat and sat and sat.   So after dusting and cleaning and Olympic gymnastic acts to get it threaded, it is working!     How fun are those machines?

Drapery Lining Pennant Tutorial

Image
First of all, I bought this drapery lining thinking it was the Roclon product that everyone is painting on.   It was not.  So it was tossed into the stash.   In the archeological dig that I am calling Painting My Way Out Of My Paint Room , I unearthed it. In the middle of the night, it came to me... Pennants!   So here is what I did. Made a template.    Vinyl flooring makes the greatest patterns!   You can choose what size you make, it's pretty simple fourth grade geometry. Make sure that you make that little area on the top to fold over. Trace them onto the fabric. Now I know that I could have utilized this better by making them go both ways. But honestly, I have lots and it was cheap. You can see that I started alternating them and then thought, "why?" Paint them your choice of colors, painting right over the lines.   Because really, staying in the...

Owls and a Rare Cooking Success

Image
Not entirely my own idea, these were adapted from this website. http://moonstitches.typepad.com/moonstitches/2007/11/zakka-style-owl.html I changed a few things to make them a little different. These were the first, I have some different thoughts for the next batch. Put wings on some, feather scallops on the belly, add some burlap... oh, the possibilities. \   Success! And another success. Those of you who follow this craziness on Facebook, will know the condition of the Easter Eggs and the unsuccessful Bunny Rolls. Those of you who don't follow on Facebook, well, I will just leave all that to your imagination. I CAN cook, just don't really LOVE to cook.  My cooking "process" seems to provide people with entertainment. So much that some people think that I need my own cooking show. I might be a little clumsy in the kitchen... anyhow, Artistic Cooking totally escapes me. A beautiful ...

700th Post!

Image
You might think that it should be monumental, a milestone, some really deep words of wisdom.... a giveaway, but no... just more of the same. 700 posts of family happenings, crafting, thrift store shopping, a little decorating and a whole lot of nonsense. And so, in that true fashion I will hopefully have about 700 more over the next four years. And so, this one will avoid the family happenings because sometimes the kids' humor just cannot be shared until I have an anonymous blog. If anyone has a burning desire to know what that is... just leave me a comment and I could be prompted to tell you... privately. The top picture was a thrift shop find from a few weeks ago. Ok, I kind of forgot about it, it was in the back of my car and it just made it to the house last night. How can anyone pass up those train cases? This one was only $1.00 found at St. Vincent de Paul and in perfect shape. It is goin...
