History Repeats

Image
Shelby brought me a long forgotten box of pictures. A lot of time has been spent going through them. A laugh, a tear, places you've been, things you have seen, people you have lost, so many that you are still blessed to have. Houses we have lived in, events, dances, holidays, pounds I have gained, pounds I have lost, pounds I have found again. Hair colors I have tried and wrinkles I have earned! These pics were well worth sharing though. The little girls above? Close to thirty years ago on the Little Dipper at Conneaut Lake Park. The little girls below? Their daughters last summer. Again... mothers.. Daughters. OK, does anyone else understand why I would call them the wrong names all the time? And surely... I CAN'T BE THIS OLD!

You Can't Be Everywhere at Once

Or Can You? Does anyone remember this movie? My girls loved it!  They can quote many parts word for word. Michael Keaton, I think that the character's name was Doug, finds that he has too many places to be and has himself cloned. Funny movie and interesting concept. The only problem is that each clone gets a little quirkier and dumber. So, where am I going with all this? Here are my options for this weekend. #1 My daughter's SIL's wedding. Gracelyn and Garren are flower girl and ringbearer. #2 It is clean-up weekend at Conneaut Lake Park. My Dad is going without me. http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2012/04/conneaut-lake-park.html #3 It is ladies camp/crafting weekend and the quilt show at Chautauqua My mom is going without me. http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2009/09/chautauqua-quilt-show.html #4 Tyler has a game, and I have a magazine deadline. Stay at home weekend. ...

Last Friday, Next Friday

Image
Last Friday was spent at Conneaut Lake Park. One of my favorite places to be.. I went there when I was young. I took my girls there and now my grandchildren. The park has struggled over the years, but they are persevering and coming back. It was so nice to see a nice crowd a clean midway, and ride attendants that went above and beyond to make sure that all the families had a great day! Four generations spent the day there Mom and Dad, Me Shelby Gracelyn, Kendall and Garren. There was something for everyone! Such a relaxing day! And next Friday, I start this. A painting class in Virginia at the Pampered Palette. I can't wait. It has been a long time since I have taken a seminar. Three days of painting, no phone, no stress, no demands. What a break! I have always loved this painting. This well worn book sits on my coffee table all the time. I even bought this piece a few y...

Conneaut Lake Park

Another weekend of clean-up and repair. This is the midway, deserted now, but cleaned up and almost ready for the season. Sixty or so volunteers from all over the area, all with a love of the park, and a desire to see it thrive, showed up this weekend to clean, scrub, rake, paint, and fix what could be done on a cold and rainy weekend. I spent most of my time here with my crew. We arranged and scrubbed tables, and then painted them. Don't you just want to take a picnic lunch there and spend the day at the park? I know I will be this summer! Dad and I stayed at the Hotel Conneaut. This is a picture from last year. And while I don't believe all the ghost stories, when they offered the ghost tour, I went along in order to see more of the hotel. The ballroom is beautiful, with amazing views of the lake. If you haven't been there in awhile, it is worth the trip. The park is trying to stay open. ...

Snippets from the Weekend

Image
Photos from the weekend!  It was a great time, time with my Dad, so many old memories, made some new friends, and made some new memories. Part of our work crew. This was Sunday at noon, we were all getting a little tired! Photos of the Blue Streak. Saturday night we rode it. I even got my 79 year old father to ride it! New parts and old parts. So great to see it being restored. We did a lot of leaf raking.. most of it in the rain and cold! Love this sentiment! And I even managed to get some projects done for the open house. Not much to do in a hotel room when you wake up at five in the morning... So I crafted! Almost done with the 40 or so of these that I cut out! Some stockings and mittens. And these pinwheels.  I can't remember where I got this pattern. I would love to give the person credit. If anyone knows, let me know and I will post the link. They are pretty quick and easy to make. And finally finished the pumpkin pillow.  I know it has a price ta...

Off to the park!

Image
Conneaut Lake Park It is volunteer clean up weekend there and it is my dad and daughter weekend. I remember going to this park when I was little and taking my kids when they were little, and two years ago, taking Gracelyn for the first time. http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2009/08/four-generations-at-conneaut.html So, My Dad and I are going to help out there on Saturday and Sunday for the Fall Clean Up Weekend. And I hear that this ride might be open to ride! How fun! This echoes my feelings! A few years ago they restored The Blue Streak. It's nice to see an old park like this coming back. It has sure had it's years of problems, and was even closed for a season or two. But it is back up and running and I'm excited about going and helping out for a weekend. One of the best parts? is that the Hotel Conneaut offers special rates to those helping out. When I was little, I always wanted to stay there. It looked like a place for the "rich" people. Can't w...

Four generations at Conneaut

Image
Conneaut Lake Park is near Meadville, Pa. The park has had it's problems over the last few years, but is open again this year. It does not look like it used to and is not in the greatest condition but they are trying. This place holds so many memories for me, of going there when I was little, of taking my girls and friends when they were little and now a day spent there with my granddaughter. The girls and I have been to many of the bigger parks over the years. Cedar Point was an almost yearly trip when I was a child, as well as Idlewild. Busch Gardens, Disney, and Universal were all trips that we made also, yet this park was always my favorite, small, old-fashioned and with a sense of history there. For all the park condition is a bit of a disappointment, the day spent with my daughter, granddaughter and my parents was not. It was the nicest, most relaxing day I have spent in a long time. A day at the spa could not have been better. Gracelyn loved the merry-go-round. We rode that...
