Kids, Coffee, Paintbrushes, NORMAL!

After flight delays and way too many hours in airports yesterday, we arrived home after 11:00 PM.    What a long day!   Delta would not be my airline of choice, there are always so many delays which make for tight or missed connections and running through airports, however, the price is right so I guess you just have to have a "get what you pay for" mentality.   New Orleans was fun. I have been waiting and waiting to go back. Our first trip there was a few years ago and I loved it! This trip was somewhat ill-timed. A big college football weekend, that resulted in tons of college students that somewhat adapted a mob mentality and seemed to push a lot of the tourists to pizza in their rooms. We were told by several shop and restaurant owners that most places "close for renovations" for this weekend to avoid the problems. How sad!   But, we did find places that the college s...

And I can't wait! New Orleans!   The most friendly. welcoming, fun, city that I have ever visited!   JWS and I both have been wanting to go back and yesterday morning I heard him on the phone booking a room and then left it up to me to get plane tickets.    And we are booked.    I can't wait! Oysters, Bread Pudding, Beignets, The Music, The Art! The Architecture, The History... I love it all! http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2009/10/new-orleans-different-perspective.html http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2009/10/pic-from-new-orleans.html http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2009/10/cuban-cab-drivers-feet-issues.html

New Orleans - A Different Perspective

Image
Oh, there are tons more pics of houses and food...TONS! But these will be the last pics, then I have to go back to the real world, there is work at the shop and our open house is less than a month away. I have to WORK! John had two damsel in distress moments on the trip. One was this woman on the ferry who could not get her parking break off to move off the ferry. He finally got the problem solved, however he could not understand the woman's Spanglish and she put John on the phone with her husband and he was worse. The other incident was in a little gallery on Royal Street where the owner/artist was flying around in a tizzy having lost her cell phone. She felt sure that someone had stolen it. John calmly tells her to call her phone and offers his to her to use. She declines, realizing that she has a land line in the shop, calls it and finds her cell phone ringing in the bathroom under the toilet paper. We leave after she thanks him over and over again. About a half a blo...

Cuban Cab Drivers, Feet Issues

Another out of the way place that John wanted to eat at. They were on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and we had the address and the hotel arranged for the cab. A little better grasp on the English language might have been helpful, but with the little Spanish that I know and the little English that he knew, we found this place. I know at some point he had to be thinking we were really silly gringos wanting to be left at this place when there were plenty of restaurants close by, but we made it there and it was probably the best BBQ and the best macaroni and cheese that I have ever had. The name of the place is the Always Smokin ' Joint. I would go back! That is John waiting on a cab to pick us up and take us back. Love these little shotgun houses. We were left off at the French Market and browsed a little but they were actually closing up. We'll go back tomorrow. Some random pics around the French Quarter. Beignets at Cafe du Monde . A big rain storm started an...

Pic from New Orleans

Always looking for an out of the way place to eat, we found this place last night just a short ferry ride across the water. Everyone is so helpful here, if you even look a little confused, someone just is ready and willing to help you and answer questions. On the ferry ride across the river, we talked to a young architect on her way home from work. She was so informative and interesting and I felt as if I learned so much about the city from her. This place, the Dry Dock Cafe had a terrific waitress, Robin, that had tons of information of where to go and what to do. These were some of our pics from last night. The days have been spent at the trade show. Tomorrow is our free day though and I want to get to the French Market and to Cafe du Monde yet. Also would like to do a little daylight shopping in the French Quarter. What a great classic rock band! Old Opera House on Bourbon Street. This gentlemen played the request of Free Bird on the wineglasses. City view at night from the ...

New Orleans...Day one

Image
How do you get ready for a trip? We are not normally early packing people. So it was not a surprise to find us delivering orders at 6:00 on Tuesday night, nothing packed and we had to leave the house at 3:30 AM on Wednesday. Nine and one half hours to wash a few things, pack and get a little sleep before we left was plenty. I even thought I had time to throw a few highlights in my hair. The thing that was not planned was a fluoride pill up the nose of a screaming four year old. Having experienced a button up the nose of his aunt when she was three years old, I dumped my "packed" purse, grabbed the visine , jumped in the car and flew to Jenn's house. By the time I got there he had blew it out and all that was left was to "play" for a little bit and leave. By the way, eye drops up the nose will shrink that capillaries and cause the item to loosen up. Just in case..... Yesterday's day of travel continued to confirm Murphy's Law for me. Although I am not a ...
