Readers, Stay Free and a Cell Phone

Image
What do all of these have in common? Well, all three passed though my life in a short half hour. Well, not the SHORTEST half hour I ever spent exactly. You see, it was time for my Mom and Dad's cell phone to be upgraded. They are on my plan, we are not even going to go into JWS changing the plan recently and the bill that ensued. That, is just too much for me to wrap my mind around and an experience not worth repeating and once you hear this story that I AM telling, you can only imagine how bad the OH MY GOSH, WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE CELL PHONE BILL ? story actually is. So, here we go. Mom and Dad are here visiting Shawnee, I think it is the perfect time to upgrade their cell phone. I have errands to run so I have them meet me at the Verizon store. Eileen, is the very nice employee there who is so kind and helpful... I really liked her before yesterday, now I think I love her.  We get the new and fancy pho...

Ice Fishing?

Image
Does anyone else other than me think that this looks unsafe?   Take a good look. That is water at the shore, not ice and while this is far away, those are people and little sheds and stuff.   Just driving by and looking at that made me shiver. Not just with cold, but with fear!   It brought back memories.   Teenage years, and ice skating. I loved to ice skate. Find me a frozen anything and those skates were strapped on and I was gliding.   However, being young, we didn't always do the proper checks on the ice.     Luckily, the time that unsafe practice reared it's ugly head only involved thigh deep water.... but still, it was really cold!    Quite the memorable childhood experience.      But back to the picture. Saturday night at dinner with friends, I showed the picture to the resident ice fishing expert (well actually, I only know a cou...

Owls, Revamped

Image
First of all, you will need this post.   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2011/05/wool-owl-tutorial.html which I promptly forgot I had even written. (It's the old age setting in, but we'll save that for another ramble)   It explains the basics of how to make these.   I thought that they needed to stand alone. Or maybe owls "perch"? And so, they were adjusted.   The bottom of the pattern was flattened out. And this cute little gusset was inserted.     And there you have it... Owls, revamped.   No longer bowl fillers, now shelf sitters.

Hope Springs

Image
It has been a long, rough winter for us. The weather has not been terrible, not as bad as it could have been, but life just seems to have knocked us down a few times.   I kept thinking, "Spring will be better, the time change, warmer weather, it has to get easier...." Yesterday, I saw this flower. Wow! It is hard to believe what that tiny yellow flower represented. Hope.         Immediately, I went on a search. Life. Under all the winter junk. Primulas sprouting.   Even this invasive ground cover was a welcome sight.     Yet, I still think. I love to work in my yard, but with that brings the memory of Marilyn, walking out on the porch with a cold bottle of water for me, telling me to rest, admiring the flowers. I would sit on the edge of her porch and drink the water and talk. I would cut whatever fresh flowers were growing and bring her a bouqu...

Watercolors

Image
Last night was my second watercolor class. It should have been the fourth, however life got in the way of the first two classes. We worked from photos last night and it is really nice to just paint, not think about what might or might not sell, just to be creative. If you have a chance, you need to check out the teacher's website. http://www.tomgallovich.com/ You will get lost in his work.  The photography is amazing!

Over the Moon

Image
These are pics of the nursery that I painted last night. I had put it off for so long that I was concerned I would be painting around a baby. This is just the cutest little room. The walls are a soft green, you can't tell that here. It is a Cape Cod house and the Hey Diddle Diddle rhyme is in the dormer.           And finished before the baby!

A New Project

And what a great change.   I haven't worked with wool for awhile and I am hoping for the best, and using lots of Eucerin and taking Benedryl at night as a precaution.   I love wool, just have problems with it sometimes.   But first, there is this mess. But it is getting organized... somewhat. Lots more to go!   There may even be a free pattern, watch for it!
